I have been on a steep learning curve the last days. Thought I had passed but then, suddenly my system doesn't detect its SSD anymore. I tried all ports and I tried another laptop but zilch...

My system is a Sager NP9261 (D901C). After I learned that the SSD should be placed in the first SATA port, I was able to boot in AHCI mode through the SSD (an OWC Mercury Extreme 120GB SSD)and in Normal (IDE) mode through my regular HD. I used the BIOS to switch between systems. Worked well. My system detected the SSD in both modes. I have Windows 7 installed on both SSD and HD.

But now the SSD is not recognized anymore. I even had to remove the SSD because it disturbed my regular HD from booting...

I probably have to learn a new lesson here, or should I RMA the SSD?

I contacted OWC. They will come back to me, but I guess it's going to be an RMA.

BTW, I took the drive out during the night and tested it this morning: not detected...

I use an Intel Gen2 160GB SSD in my D901C in IDE Mode, and it has been working great for 1.5 years now. I haven't had any issues, and it is still speedy even today.

Sandforce-based SSDs do not particularly like IDE mode. You should consider getting an Intel SSD for your machine if that SSD continues to fail thee.
