I am currently trying to upgrade my cpu to an extreme either a x7800/x7900/x9000. I know that the x9000 runs the coolest, but will this work in my system. I've been told that it will by people that have done it. But i'm fed up with suppliers telling me that it wont support any extreme processor. They said that only version 5 motherboards will support it. What is different about the motherboards in the 5791 and 5793 that will change what processor they will support. They are both the same chipset. As long as i have the updated bios i figure all should work well. Please let me know your opinions and any help would be great.

I'm not sure you can. I saw a post from gophn that listed all the revisions of the 579x series and what upgrades they can get. Let me find it.

the 5791 will take the x9000 with the updated bios. i know i did it. there really is no difference. both will take the same gpu's (with bios update) and both can take the 9 series cpu's. the 5793 was a "update" that was supposed to allow the new gpu and cpu's but as me and a few others proved the 5791 could use those just fine without issue. they will simply say the 5791 does not "support" the x9000 but that doesnt mean it doesnt work just fine.

@Z you might want to edit that first x9100 to x9000...Don't want to give ppl the wrong idea...

The bigger cpu heatsink in the 5793 was for it to be able to take the x7800/x7900 cpus, but by the time the 5793 was released, the x9000 was out and it had a lower tdp, so the bigger HS was no longer needed...

Oh so if i got the x9000 then i wouldn't need the bigger hs, because i've found a supplier with the bottom casing and HS but they want 90 for them both. And if i could go without that would be great.

the bigger heatsink and bottom panel (seen in the M570RU-U Extreme Edition) is for overclocking capabilities.

you should be able to use the X9000 in the M570RU (non OC edition).

i used the x9000 with the regular heatsink personally and it was just fine no issues at all.
