This might be a stupid question; however, I wondering is there a difference between the 8662 and 8660? or do they actually refer to the same thing?
Thanks

Not quite, though they both use the same frame the NP8662 (or M860ETU) is capable of using the quad-core processors from the Core-2-Duo range whereas the NP8660 (or M860TU) which was released six months earlier can't.
The M860ETU also comes with the nvidia Geforce 'GTX 260M' which is slightly better than the '9800M GT' or '9800M GTS' that came with the M860TU.
However it should be noted that with a BIOS update the M860TU can be installed with the 'GTX 260M' as well without modifications. -
Both "Sager" model numbers reflect the same manufacturer (Clevo) model.... Clevo M860TU/ETU
like said, the only difference is that the second revision (sometimes known as the M860ETU by some vendors) can support mobile Core 2 Quad processors.
everything else is identical... including the videocard module support. -
What about the M865TU is that a M860TU or a M860ETU?
-
It's the same guts with a slightly different looking shell, so it would also have the tu and etu varieties.
-
Okay, so a M865TU = M860TU but with different casing?
So basically I wouldn't be able to use a Quad Core?
What would be the biggest CPU I could use in my machine then? -
To get a definite answer to the quad core, open the back of your laptop and look on the ram slots for the motherboard version number and report it back.
If it can't take quads, the max you can put in is an X9100. -
The number on the RAM slots are:
1TM860009070229 V3.0A-1 -
No problem, with quad support.
-
Weeee
Then I think I'm going to aim for a Q9200 and a GTX 260M 1GB as an upgrade then
The cooling solution in the M865TU should be able to handle both, right? -
Thanks for the reply

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The initial pilot release of the M860TU as well as the motherboard revision model can support any G92 based card. So yes, both can accept the GTX 280M just fine. Like the other said above, the only difference is that the original model doesn't have quad core CPU support while it's revision does. If you plan to replace your current GPU with the GTX 260M or GTX 280M, update your BIOS first.

but yeah always best to have the most recent BIOS when it comes to upgrading hardware parts.
Difference NP8662 + NP8660?
