I'm getting a new p170 which will be my very first gaming computer which I am really excited about. How big of a difference will I get from the 6990m vs the 6970? What kind of fps should I expect on games like black ops and bad company 2? How much battery life will this kill, and will a 2630qm processor be enough for the 6990m. Thanks in advance :)

I say about a 10% differences between a 6990m and a 6970m. 2630qm processor is enough for all GPU if your only intention is playing games.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 - 57fps on the 6990m and 49fps on the 6970m on average.

Call of Duty Black Ops - 76 fps on the 6990m and 68fps on the 6970m on average.

    Hope that help!

What do you mean by bottleneck? So will I be able to get atleast 2-3 hours on low settings web browsing or typing? (For school) And is it unbearably loud?

it means the 6990m will limit your laptop before the cpu does. 3 hours is attainable with low screen brightness and light usage. Fan noise isn't that bad, only gets really loud when its on full blast.

Anything else I could tweak to low to get an even longer battery life or is that already stretching it?

Your really stretching it but for some reason mine seem to be longer than 3 hours on low light setting, but I could be wrong. Idk it just seem like forever to discharge my battery.

Compare to my Macbook, charging from 0 to 100 is quite fast, I would say 1.5 hours, but I am not sure. I'm currently downloading a game from steam so I can't test it for you.

No worry, asking questions is the safest way to making a purchase and I'm more than happy to help ;)

Well I'll probably upgrade to the 6990m and then we will have pretty similar rigs. Want to play Battlefield 3 when it comes out :p
