So yeah, I know one of them is 15" and the other is 17". However, looking at pictures of the two, it seems like the finish on the lid behind the display, as well as on the palm rests, are a bit different. On the 15" 8268-S, it looks like it's either hard plastic, or a rubberized finish. Meanwhile on the 17" 8278-S, it looks like a glossy plastic or a real/faux brushed aluminum finish. Anybody know for sure? (Do you guys find one finish to be superior to the other?)

I was curious to know if there were any other differences. I was looking at some configurations on Xotic PC, and with the hardware I want, it looks like they're only $10 apart in price. Does one have better cooling/noise performance than the other?

I was originally planning to wait either wait for Maxwell to show up in these dual-fan Sager laptops, or buy an Asus G750JM. I'm not sure if it's a temporary deal or not, but if it looks like I can get an 870M, a 120 GB mSATA SSD, and an i7-4810MQ for under $1500 I think I want to jump on it.

You really have summed up the differences. The rubberized coating on the NP8268 does make it a little more resistant to scuff marks vs a hard plastic.

They have the same cooling but a 17.3" typically will get slightly lower temperatures because of more open room in the chassis.

Cool, thanks for confirming that for me. :)

So on the 17", it's all hard plastic and not metal? Just curious.

Clevo machines are almost all plastic but quite rigid.

Some have a thin layer of metal over parts. But yes plastic is used primarily.

I believe it's ABS plastic, specifically. Some models have a brushed aluminum finish on the casing but are still by and large plastic.

Not disputing you but not 100% sure. Have wondered myself as I don't think clevo's are. My sager compal jfl92 might've been ABS. would be nice to know for sure though. It's not a low quality plastic for sure.
