Hello, I made a thread several weeks ago about my 6990M dying. During the last day, I received a 7970M and have attempted to install it without any luck... Whenever I attempt to start the laptop with the newly installed GPU, I have a black screen and nothing else.

-I flashed the EC/BIOS to the latest one in the official clevo bios thread. Is that bios listed there okay to use with this GPU? It was the one for Sager 150HM machines.

-I have attempted to blind flash the gpu, but the computer just starts up and absolutely nothing happens. It doesn't reboot or anything. It just stays on with a blank screen. [I believe I set the computer to start reading USB first.]

Is there anything that I'm messing up? Some help please.

I don't mean to post another reply to my own thread but I just wanted to add some information.

The BIOS version that I used to flash my CPU is:

    SAGER versions for
    BIOS V 1.01.14 &
    EC/KBC V 1.00.13

They came from the thread found here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html

I know for a fact that the flash was successful, however I can do it again just to be certain.... The information I'm looking for is this:

Does this BIOS version accept the 7970M?>

I placed my 6990M back in today and put in my USB without the required flash rom for the 7970M and the autorun file just to see what would happen. It automatically booted into DOS and the autorun ran but offcourse had no rom to point to, it said error. [I was not attempting a flash, I just wanted to see if it was operating correctly.]

For a reference, it came from Jaybee83's' guide. This is the thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-7970m-modded-vbios-clevo-p1xxhm-laptops.html

I followed the instructions exactly as posted. These are the files I attempted to flash the 7970M with:

    Ati-Flash 3.95
AMD 7970M modded vBIOS for HM laptops
    autoexec.bat

    From the thread:

So what am I doing wrong? I don't understand why the laptop is not accepting the GPU and running. I would appreciate any help and or advice.

    Thank You,
    -SpheX

[I apologize in advance if posting links is not allowed and I broke some rule.]

    *EDIT*

When I placed the 6990M back in, I can see the sager logo, go into the bios and dos. offcourse the graphics are garbled if I attempt to boot up windows.

    Update Again.

1 ) I verified that this is a clevo branded GPU.

According to the image found here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...vo-7970m-350-clevo-dell-7970m-capacitorsa.jpg

2 ) I flashed my EC to clevo 12 but did not reflashmy bios. It i still sager 14.

My laptop still started up with the 6990M and I saw that in the bios I had sager 14 with clevo 12.

I attempted 7970M under sager bios 14 and clevo EC 12. Same black screen, no windows starting up sound. Blind flash did nothing, computer never restarted after 10 minutes...

Any suggestions? I'm starting to believe this card was bricked before I had purchased it...

Out of curiosity, where did you get this card from? I have a 170hm and the EXACT same thing you're describing happened to me. Did you happen to get this off of ebay? If so, what seller? I ended up returning my card to the seller (had to report to ebay to get my money back, otherwise, they were trying to screw me).

I bought it from a seller on ebay named fresh-dealz

    For reference:

    Search Ebay for 7970M.

    EDIT

    Removing external link.

Ok, I bought EXACTLY from that seller. I suspected the card was defective, so I demanded an RMA. Now I'm even more convinced that the card was defective. In fact, he may well have sent you my exact card which was just returned to them just over a week ago.

I'd suggest you also try the flash.bat file just in case the autoexec isn't working for some reason. it just requires you to write flash and hit enter after the laptop has booted.

Worth a try, but I tried both the flash.bat method and the autoexec method. In both cases it does something and reboots the machine, but the screen always remains black. Put the old 6990m back in and it works. I strongly suspect that the seller is selling defective cards.

Hmm. What are the odds that both devilsadvocate and myself both get working cards that we just couldn't install? I'm thinking I may have to contact ebay... However, before i jump to a conclusion...

I will attempt to blind flash the 7970M with the batch command but I doubt it will work. Infact, the screen always remained black and never rebooted one time during any of the attempts. I just want to know one thing for certtain, so I can rule out BIOS or EC version.

Can anyone confirm that the sager bios 14 found in the bios thread works with 7970M?

Can anyone confirm that the vanilla EC 12 found in the bios thread works with 7970M?

If the answer to both is yes, then this card was most likely bricked, prior to arriving to me.

    hey SpheX,

what's the revision of your 7970m? there should be a sticker on the back of the card. i suspect it's v1.1. if so not much can be done, it won't work in your p150hm.

It reads exactly as follows AMD Wimbledon V1.1 2G

Can this card work at all on a 150HM?

yea, as i said it won't work in p150hm. only v1.2 can be blind-flashed on these machines.
