    Argh.

Just got my awesome Malibal a few weeks ago, and I am getting random freeze screens and BSOD. When it happens windows 7 shows "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 280.26 stopped responding...".

Anyone else having this issue? My temperatures are fine. I am using the latest Nvida certified drivers. This happens usually when I start up Firefox. Chrome and IE shows the same behavior too.

HAA! someone else that had my problem. I created this thread for that: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...0-screenflickering-gpu-driver-crash-help.html
See this and tell me if this is what you are experiencing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPy_OWpAOY4

If yes, roll back to 275.33 and wait for Nvidia's beta drivers that are supposed to come out sometime in september.

Similar behavior, except my screen sometimes turns purple in some areas, and when it really goes wild, BSOD. This doesn't happen often, like once a few days, but I hardly use the laptop except few hours of gaming at night.

I will try rolling back to 275.33 if the clean sweep with 280.26 doesn't work. Funny that 280.26 is Nvidia certified.

You might also want to look at custom INF's from laptopvideo2go.com if the rollback doesn't work.

    Hi guys
I had the same problem with my Kobalt G150 a couple of days ago, the driver (280.26) crashed constantly, i just left it turn off overnight and i did not experienced the problem anymore.
I think it was related somehow with firefox.

    Update:

Driver sweep in safe mode and reinstalling 280.26 did not do the trick. The problem came back after a two days (total of less than 10 hours of usage).

    Going to test Nvidia's 275.33

Malibal, what do you mean by custom INFs? Are you suggesting to their latest driver? Sorry I am not familiar with this.

My lappy did this same thing last night.

I was just web browsing and entire screen went off and came back with that. I figured was driver issue with seeing others have similar problems.

My OS is clean install with clean install of drivers and its never seen an older ver yet.

When I get my replacement laptop wed if no new beta drivers out I may just go back to prev version.

    Update #2:

Safe mode driver sweep and installed Nvidia's 275.33 last night

Left the notebook on over night and the same flicker/stall problem is still occurred in the morning.

Going to try driver from laptopvideo2go.com v285.27

Oh sorry. I didnt see that you had mentioned it in the earlier post.

The 285.27 just released yesterday, on the official site What's New - GeForce

Im using it now and I have no problems so far. In fact, I've found FPS improvement in games.

I've had my P170HM3 for exactly one week now, with a clean driver install of 280.26 since the first day. I just got this problem for the first time tonight :( Screen flickered and freaked me out, then windows theme / aero seemed to go off and back on, then the systray popup saying the driver failed and recovered.

Interestingly, I can no longer change the brightness with the hotkeys, even though the popup in the upper left seems to work right (I assume it will work fine if I reboot) but everything else works fine.

    Specs since I don't have enough posts for a sig: 580m, 16GB 1600Mhz Ram, 250GB SATA-III SSD, wireless Intel 6230.

    Stupid question:

Have you guys tried removing the Clevo hotkey utility?
I found that it would cause some stability issues with my laptop - namely overriding the windows power options.
I removed it and I've been running nice and stable ever since.
    Might be worth a shot?

Just to confirm, yes, a reboot restored screen brightness functionality.

I change my power options a lot between 2 custom profiles (accessed by just clicking the battery/power systray icon), as well as nvidia profiles (one for when I want the computer to be as quiet as possible, and one for when I need the power while encoding/gaming). I have been turning off the computer twice a day for travel between home and office, so I don't actually know how stable my actions were, long term (48h+ of consecutive uptime).

For now, I removed hotkey.exe from startup, and we'll see if I get the problem again. :)

Did you uninstall the old one and then use "CCleaner" or "Driver Cleaner Pro" or whatever in safe mode? Though if that doesn't work, maybe try re-seating the card?

I thought with the new NVIDIA software you didn't have to use driver cleaner anymore since the NVIDIA program does it for you now. Is this not the case?

You shouldn't have to, but if it had a failed uninstall or left bits behind, it can cause the new install to fail.

Wow, it looks like this issue has become more common lately... can you guys provide any more information about your systems? perhaps about the display (panel) or the version of chipset, bios, video bios, software version like "firefox V.7", Ie v9, etc...

Edit: Also, did the guys having problems installed first the Clevo video Drivers > uninstall > install new drivers or Clean install windows > then straight to latest NVIDIA drivers?

    Thanks =)

Cool Thanks for the info =) I will be folowing this thread to see if we can solve this problem together.

My last laptop (ASUS G73JH) had a problem similar to this one (just worse xD), and the people from ASUS had to make a new Video Bios for the users experiencing problems, so I believe it will be a good idea if we continue to provide feedback to help CLEVO figure out what can be the cause of this.

For instance, I realized some of the owners with this problem seem to have skipped the clevo video drivers that came with the machine
(the basic ones), and went straight to the NVIDIA DRIVERS, from what I know the original basic drivers usually contain the most stable INFs and assembly information, and that information remains on your system, even when you uninstall the drivers and install new ones, helping stability :)

Perhaps someone can try a fresh windows install > install original clevo drivers from disk > uninstall them > and finally install the new Nvidia drivers ;)

crap... i did a fresh install about 1-2 weeks ago, things are just in shape and now this... as if those damn BSODs from the Vertex3 weren't enough!

i think i'm going to have to reverse to the drivers before the latest, i just don't understand why now all of a sudden.. i had no problems for 1-2 weeks and now i can't browse,game...

i use G. Chrome and that was what got this started!..
if you ask me seems this fail is shokwaveplayer or something related..

reviving this old thread to say: Just got it again, after more than a week of no problems. I was not doing anything adobe- or macromedia-related, and hotkey.exe hasn't been run since my previous post here. I was doing some database stuff and web development in firefox, but that's it. Again, it recovered and made my brightness max and the keys couldn't lower it.

I guess I don't mind a problem like this once every 2 weeks, but still, not what I'd expect from a machine of this caliber.

I believe I'm having the same problem on my GTS 8800M. My current laptop is a Gateway P6831Fx.

Click on your Action Center in the taskbar and look up your errors. Are you seeing any that contains Locale ID: 1033 and BCCode: 117?

The only driver that doesn't cause BSOD is the one Gateway posted. It's 167.46 and nearly 4 years old =/. Obviously that won't work for your modern GPU.

My theory, at least for my 4 yr old GPU, is that there is a hardware issue. The super old driver perhaps doesn't access the damaged part (No CUDA, PhysX, etc) or draws less power.

Try installing incrementally older drivers until you find one that works.

...So yep. But I think there are only 2 official drivers for my card. the 275 and 280. And since the 275 doesn't support windowed 3D, I'd rather just deal with this occasional issue than roll back :/

CRAP I just got this same Error here, it happened when using Firefox 7 and the application crashed then my monitor turned off... and recovered with the same message and symptoms:

The brightness to max and unable to change it back.

I hope Clevo provide a fix for this because its happening more and more often now =S

Edit: I uploaded my stock drivers if some1 want to test them please go ahead: http://www.multiupload.com/D9DY4FBVHJ these are the drivers for Nvidia card that came with my P170HM for Windows 7 x64

I've just done a fresh Windows install and I've started getting this error.
This is with *only* the 285.38 beta drivers installed.

What is strange is that I've previously never encountered this problem - even with the same drivers. My last install of Windows I began with 280.26 WHQL and then upgraded to 285.38 beta.

Perhaps Mubay is onto something :)

Hmm, here is something to try.
In recent driver releases Nvidia has added some new functionality called NvidiaUpdate. I've read some reports of this causing some instability.
I'm going to remove it from my system and I'll report back if it helps.

I will try that too and also disabling the "hardware acceleration" on Firefox:

I hope you guys don't mind its in Spanish =p you can get to that windows on Firefox > Options > Options > Advanced Then un-check the "hardware accel when available" I will report if it fixes the problem.

Just to be clear we're talking about this?
I'll turn mine off and see too.

Note that with hardware acceleration off in firefox, scrolling can be a bit laggy (for me, using a smooth-scrolling add-on), and 3D will not work (youtube, 3dvisionlive, etc). Not a compromise I'm willing to make. :/
