So my display driver keeps crashing every time I play a game. I do a lot of online gaming such as WoW, Lineage 2, Aion beta etc...in WoW my display driver crashes every hour or so. In lineage 2 every 5 minutes and in Aion every 20 minutes or so. If I leave my computer off for the night I am able to play for about an hour and a half before it starts its crashing process.

I tried Wiping anything Nvidia related off my computer and downgraded to the original VGA before reinstalling a supported driver. The problem still persists. About a year ago I overclocked my graphics card. I am using a Sager np5796 with 9800m gtx in it. I have had no problems with the overclock up till now and was wondering if that could have anything to do with it?

If it is the overclocks fault I was wondering if someone could show me a step by step guide on how to restore my Bios to the original version as I am completely clueless and followed a guide on how to OC a 9800m gtx a long time ago.

If it is not the overclock, what can be told by the fact that it only crashes every so often in some games but very often in others? is the driver at fault or is the card dying? What should my next step be?

    Thank you again =)

What application did you use to clean the registry or uninstall the drivers?
Have you tried changing or reinstalling the O.S?

First, run HWMonitor while running a game, then when the display driver crashes, see what the max recorded temperature is. You may well need to clean out your vents (have you been doing this at all?)

yes I clean out my vents every 3 weeks or so and I reinstalled my OS about 2 months ago and I remember having the problem then although it wasn't as bad. I used Driver Sweeper to uninstall and then CCcleaner to try to wipe everything clean.

Edit: ran HWmonitor. First crash happened with card at 67 which isn't all that bad

Have you been keeping an eye on temperatures though?

Depending on how the thermal compound was originallly applied, it may need replacing, but check your temps first by running HWMonitor while gaming and reporting back the max CPU/GPU temps.

yeah the highest temp was the gpu at 67 before the crash. EVerything else was lower. Is the OC ruled out then?

Unfortunatly not, I would flash your VBIOS back to stock and see if it helps.

Do you still have a copy of your original (untouched) vbios available?

I'm sure someone on here has it, anyone got an original 9800M GTX vbios from a 5796?

Otherwise just read your bios out using GPU-Z, then edit it back to stock clocks/voltages in nibitor and reflash.

    OK, here goes.

Open GPU-Z and click the little microchip icon as shown here:

This will save your bios as a .bin file.

Open up this file in NiBiTor, you should now be able to change the clocks back to default on the main page as here:

Also reset the voltages t stock as here:

Now save the bios and ensure it is saved as a .rom file.

If you don't already have a bootable usb stick, create one as per the guide in my sig, then put the new rom file along with nvflash on it.

Reboot into DOS and type "nvflash G92 M.rom" (without quotes).

Hopefully then you will be all back to stock
