I am wanting to buy a Clevo P150EM laptop and I am desperately trying to find out if the Displayport can output a resolution of 2560x1440 to an external 27" monitor I have.

The monitor has a DP port but also a DVI-D port. I don't mind buying an adaptor to convert the DP signal to DVI-D, but I want to be sure that when I attach an external monitor to the laptop that it will recognise its capability of having a high resolution 2560x1440.

Can someone please let me know if the laptop can do this? I have email the vendor I want to buy from (PCSpecalist in the UK) but no reply yet.

The maximum should be 2560x1600 but it may depend on the driver support (as always).
Also, depends on whether it has AMD or Nvidia in it. I've read stories from P180HM owners with crossfire AMD 6990m's who couldnt output 2560x1440 but I don't know if that has been resolved.

You might wan't to link us to the screen you so highly anticipating yo use and what GPU you plan on buying.

Then I'll be able to answer.. correctly ;) but b0b1man is correct, it's all driver support... and minor bugs sometimes

I'm going to use one of those Crossover 27" 2560x1440 monitors which is basically the same as an Apple Cinema Display.

My desktop computers work fine with it using older nVidia cards through a DVI Dual Link cable. But I recently had an Asus laptop with GT550M card and HDMI output which would not go beyond 1920x1080 output resolution.

I will take any graphics card on the Clevo which will output 2560x1440.

your probably going to have to get another cable to support the dual link since clevos 150em only has a single link.. i found that out the unfortunate way

If the monitor has DP, why not just use that?

Yes I will use the Displayport on the laptop, but can it output 2560x1440 resolution?

Does nobody know? I contacted PCSpecialist in the UK and they said probably not but I don't think they have a clue.

Dell laptops with a displayport can output 2560x1440 to an external monitor.

It should be able to opt. 2560 × 1600 if I'm not wrong :) why shouldn't it.

Theoretically it should, but then again my old Asus NS53SN with HDMI 1.4a port should have as well but the NVidia Optimus never recognized the resolution of my monitor so it was useless.

I just want to be 100% that when I get the laptop home and connect it to the monitor it will work. Because these are custom build, I don't think it will be easy to return for a refund if it doesn't work.

Yes well the P1x0EM series all have a HDMI 1.4a port.

Also talk to your reseller as some gives full refunds if they don't care for the laptop :) it depends on the reseller, again send a PM or read it on their website.

Displayport is more than capable. Sounds like you had a driver issue before.

Both DisplayPort & DVI interfaces can support 2560*1600. So you should be OK with 2560*1440 (typical res of a 27" VDU)

VGA cables 2048 * 1280 (not typical of any modern VDU)
    HDMI 1920 * 1080 (maybe even 1920*1200 I can't recall)
    (typical of 24" & 24"HD screens)

This is not theory. I spent many unhappy hours troubleshooting my 30" monitors till I figured out it was a limitation of the different interfaces I was using.

That was true of HDMI 1.2.

    1.3 supports 2560*1600, 1.4 supports 4096*2160 (though only 24 Hz)
