Do all of the resellers use the exact same LCD panel(s) in the NP8660 or does each reseller use different LCD panels? If each reseller uses different screens, which reseller has the best one? If each reseller sells the same from a choice of different LCD panels, is there a way to get a list of the panels that we have a chance of getting in the NP8660, and is there any way to request which one we get? What are the exact tech specs (contrast ratio, luminance, etc.) of the panels used in the NP8660? Thanks a lot!

I think all the sager resellers use the same LCD panels, but none sager resellers may use different LCD panel, but I would guess they are just different orders from Clevo. Sager offers two kinds of panels, one is glossy lesser resolution, and the other is higher resolution with matte screen.

Every Sager reseller uses the same screens because all systems are assembled by Sager in the Sager factory.

The resellers don't actually have much if any input into the assembly process other than telling Sager what components you want.

If you buy from a non-Sager reseller like Eurocom or Pro-Star or uh. I forget all of them, then you may get a different screen. For example Sager is only offering WSXGA+ or WUXGA screens, whereas someone else (I think Eurocom?) is offering WXGA.

Every reseller gets them directly from Sager.
Of course some are glossy and some have a matte finish but depending what kind of screen you ordered they are all the same.

Most brands, like Apple and Dell use a lot of different manufacturers to make their LCD panels, so when you order from them, there's always a chance that you'll get one of the better/worse panels. I'm wondering if Sager does that, too?

Then I'm guessing that's up to Clevo, really.

It's up to Clevo. Clevo manufacturers 'em, Sager builds 'em, and we sell 'em.

Thanks for the reply. Do any of the resellers have any info on the screens used?

Typically, Clevo's LCD manufacturer of choice is LG Philips.

The one that Justin got was an "LPL0000" -- an LG-Philips

Sigh here we go again. If you have read the clevo guide, the resellers do not touch, build, or even see the laptops the customers ordered unless you ordered a paint job or something. So they have no idea of knowing what screen goes into what computer. Also, the screen type depends on the size. Furthermore, Clevo is the one that chooses the brand of screens to ship with their barebones to the OEM's like Sager, ProStar, Eurocom etc...

I'm still wondering if any of the resellers on these forums can answer my other questions...

I think your questions were all answered:

Answered by the users telling you that neither we the resellers nor Sager choose which quality laptop screen to get, only the resolution.

The other answer canceled this one out.

    See above for Gophn's post.

Oh, and sorry for being a bit short with you  - but that's it; they've all been answered. Do you have any other questions?

Direct from the NP8660 users manual:

Flat Panel TFT (For One of the Following Options)
    15.4" WXGA (1280 * 800) TFT LCD (Glare Type)
    OR
    15.4" WXGA+ (1440 * 900) TFT LCD
    OR
    15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 * 1050) TFT LCD (Glare Type)
    OR
    15.4" WUXGA (1920 * 1200) TFT LCD

...also a good resource for "how TFT screens work"...
