This is regarding some of the Sager/Clevo models I see on XoticPC website (Sager NP2098 and SAGER NP5797 to be more specific).
I see when you customize the laptops, they have Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound automatically checked. Is it applied to both the CPU and GPU (I can't find where they specifically mentioned it)?
From your guy's experiences with these Sager/Clevo models and from XoticPC, what are the odds of me having to re-apply the thermal compounds on them (in case they don't apply it correctly)? Or do I just trust them that they are applying it correctly?
I'm asking this because I had some experiences in the past from other vendors (not going to mention any names) that when it was time to clean my laptops, I double checked the CPU and noticed there was too much thermal paste on there.
Any help/experiences from this great community is much appreciated. Thanks.![]()

All Sager branded notebooks ship with excess thermal paste on both the CPU and the GPU. It is recommended that you replace the thermal paste after you receive the machine.

if the temps are more than they should be, then you should open it to check the thermal compound.

If you know what your doing, may as well.
If not I would not mess with it unless you find there is a problem first. -

Also I would recommend looking into some other thermal pastes like the OCZ freeze or the ICDiamond 7
Both of these do not have the exceccive curing time of 200+ hours and have shown slightly better temps.. especially in the I7 Diamond

I'll take a look into those thermal compounds you mentioned. I wonder if it would be best to ask them to ship it in parts and not assembled. This way, I wouldn't need to clean off the thermal grease they used (and maybe save extra money from them assembling it and applying their arctic silver 5).
Has anyone ever negotiated anything like this with XoticPC and been successful? -

yeah my w90 is all bling bling with the diamond
its on my cpu and both my gpu's including replaced all the thermal pads except for the single double thermal pad.
thats my main reason for using icd7 over AS5 is that it can replace thermal pads, also the fact its non conductive makes it safer to use.
its a pain to clean off though if you go to reapply it. -

Yea but isn't the life on it supposed to be like 30 years lol... in use that is
Do I Need to re-apply Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound if laptop is new?
