I would think x64 would be the standard for that kind of laptop.

x64 running more than 3 gb if ram on x86 is more or less pointless, and hacks to make it work can cause stability issues

In this day and age, a 64-bit operating system is pretty much necessary. There's very little reason to install an x86 version, in my opinion. Even if you did, you could always just dual-boot it, or even use VMWare (or something like it).

go to system properties, you will see you have less than 4GB RAM to use

Considering you have 12GB of RAM, you pretty much have to go with 64 bit if you want to use any of it. You're limited to 4GB maximum without workarounds in 32 bit (and even with them, it's makeshift at best). Drivers and software are pretty much written for x64 by default and all new processors since the early dual cores have the instruction set built in. The only real reason to go with 32 bit is for older hardware (or very low budget, low power machines that don't need anything else).

For USB 3.0, try using these drivers (and make sure your hotkey and chipset drivers are installed):

    ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/P170HM/OTHERS/USB3.zip
    ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/P170HM/OTHERS/Chipset.zip
    ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/P170HM/OTHERS/Hotkey.zip

Your problem may have been that you installed 32 bit and the USB 3.0 drivers on the disk are not compatible.

What you are saying is that when you right click my computer and go to properties it says 64 bit under the system information? Then that means you have x64 installed. If you check the performance tab in windows task manager you should see your 12 gb of physical memory.

x64 (or x86-64) refers to 64 bit and x86 refers to 32 bit.
