I only want the laptop with a good screen (1080p), play WoW maxed out (or at the very least on very high/ultra), and surf the web/type documents.

Do i need to spend 2 grand?

Do i even need the Nvidia 1.5gb GDDR5 460M card?

What card do i need to play Wow maxed?

    What should i look at.

I was going to buy the 8150, but reviewing over my needs/wants do i NEED to spend 2grand?

Choosing a laptop is so damn hard and frustrating.

Why 2 grand? The Sager NP8130 stock configuration should do you nicely. $1299 stock with Windows 7 Home Premium.

8130 is only $1300 and has newer tech with a much more powerful CPU.

Yeah it is 1299 stock, and thats all i have is Windows 7 Home Premium, plus the $77 warranty from reflexnotebook (where i was going to buy it from).

But then you got the $112 shipping! and $198.57 tax!

It comes to a grand total of:
    $1726.06.

reason i like sager over asus is because the size is great, it is portable.
I haven't seen an asus, but they don't seem very portable.. i have checked the dimension, and compared it to the gateway my bro has and its quite big compared to that. Maybe the g53 would be a better choice?

But what other companies should i look at that are a good bang for the buck? Everyone seems like a ripoff except for Asus and sager. Asus provides good warranty where as sager doesn't really for canadians.

I would honestly rather buy something from a store so i can keep 100 dollars of ing shipping in my pocket. But nothing in store has sandy bridge like the Sager. And like a2theziz said, 2k is overkill.

I probably don't even need sandy bridge either, a lot of people don't need it who do basic use like me.

    $112 shipping and $198 tax?

    Its actuallu stupid htwing.

I live in ontario, canada. I am ordering from Montreal, Canada. A city that is 6-8hour drive away.

Tax is 13% (HST) and shipping is just stupid... $112... .

Would you say that the G53 is a better choice? I just measured it compared to my current laptop (my bro's), and its not that much bigger.

If you don't mind me asking, what part of ontario do you live in? We are in Ann Arbor, MI about 45 minutes from the Canada border via windsor. You could always come pick one up from our shop and you wouldn't get nailed with whatever taxes (I Just have to hit you with sales tax 6%) or tarrifs getting it imported as you would just carry it back, that might be an option if your close enough.

oo, thats far. I live in Guelph, An hour south from Toronto.

Don't think it would be the best bet to cross border travel and pick up a laptop. You never know at the border if they will search your car and nab you.

Oh i appreciate the offer :) I'm looking to save money anywhere, but my concern is crossing the border on the way back.

As far as laptops go, im looking at the G53jw-a1 right now.

one flaw i have seen is the power in.

I am a right hander. How the HECK am i suppose to get around this? especially when my hand is right where the cable is going to be coming out for the power.

    This is correct.

As far as going across the border you will have to look at the what it would cost in gas to drive to Ann Arbor. Barring that, I wouldn't worry too much about going across and getting searched. You're only concerns should be whether you have:

    1. A valid passport
    2. No illegal contraband on your person or in your vehicle.
    3. Don't look sketchy, shady, or nervous.
    4. NO Warrants!

Thousands of people cross the border every day. Tons of people have laptops in cases for work/personal use. If you have a girlfriend take her with you and take her out to dinner in Ann Arbor and pick up the laptop while your there. Keep the boxes and cd's and stuff but throw out all the new packing wrap that it might come in. You don't need that for a return anyway I don't believe. You'll have to work out with Mythlogic the details about stock so you don't waste a trip, and what you need to keep in the event you need to do a return/exchange.

I'm a Michigan resident with property in Ontario, and it's only a big deal if you make it out to be.

On a side note, even though I already ordered my Laptop already, I might stop by and check out your store Mythlogic. I'm only about an hour and some away and it might be kinda neat to see all the different models.

Yeah, I used to commute from Auburn Hills to Windsor on a daily basis for managing car builds at the assembly plants. Never stopped or questioned. I live probably an hour from mythlogic. I'd even be inclined to pick it up for you and meet you on the other side if you buy me lunch at the casino! ;)

I also did some work out of Guelph with Collins and Aikman. It's a good couple hours from the border I know.

Everybody I'd saying that 2grand is overkill..

I get that and I don't want to spend 2 grand just to pay wow.

Only suggestion I have got is the asus g73/53.

    Anything else?

There are 1 or 2 Candian resellers on the boards you should be able to order from ?..

I would take Htwingnuts suggestion with the 8130 over the Asus honestly...

The screen on the G53 from what i have read thus far seems to be pretty sub par..

Hey cool. I actually commuted from Eastpointe to Auburn Hills. Was a Chrysler engineer for over ten years until I took the boot, or booty as you will. ;) Lump sum and a couple cars. Of course being out of work for as long as I have that money is long gone by now...

Here is the thing, looking at the gas, and the distance, then factoring in how the hell warranty is going to work, its just not worth buying a Sager.

I'll be looking at a 4 and half + hour drive to the reseller, plus gas, to buy the notebook. But the problems come with warranty, and repairs. How is that going to work, its not easy to do it across borders especially if i'll have to drive there every time, or if i send it in i'll pay border fees (maybe). It is easier to buy it local, from tigerdirect.ca or canadacomputers.

I know the Sager 8130 is the best bet, hell i want that laptop. But its not worth dealing with all the hassles.

Other than the G53/G73, what other laptops are suggested?

Only ones are the Msi GX660R-003US i have researched about. Any other companies?

Based on your situation and all the hassles you will have to go through i would say the G73 would be your best bet in the end..

Having read not too many good things about the G53 screen quality i would personally steer clear from that machine and not to mention the dimensions of the G53 are not to much smaller then the G73 at the end of the day..

So just go with your gut instinct in this case and get the Asus ..

They have decent standard warrantys and come with all the bells and whistles youll need right out of the box ..

The shipping fee you were talking about isn't to ship the laptop from Montreal to Toronto - it's to import the laptop from the U.S. into Canada (and ship it to Toronto). The shipping fee includes all custom duties.

Reflex Notebook is a Sager reseller. They have to bring the machines in from the U.S. which is why they need to charge that fee.

It's the Ontario tax that's painful to pay. Even looking at something on Newegg, that extra 13% is always a shock.

I feel your pain. When I was trying to buy an Acer TimelineX 3820TG it was impossible to find and then I'd pay high shipping costs.

Yeah, it honestly sucks. The sager is such a damn good buy, but i would pay close to 400-600 bucks just in shipping, taxes, and warranty. Asus provides a good warrant where i would not have to pay an extra hundred for, and they come with some good additions.

Oh, and don't even get me started about tax. If i am not wrong, it used to just be the 5% GST for electronics. Now its the Harmonized HST 13% tax. That adds $220 to my purchase! RIDICULOUS!

The size of the Asus is huge from the dimensions, compared to my bro's Gateway 15.6" lappy. But i'll have to look at one in store before i bite the bullet.

This is true, we have no control over how much the shipping will cost and unfortunately taxes are necessary. You can always opt out of the optional Reflex no hassle warranty to save on costs as well.

The shipping to a U.S. friend is a good idea as well.

Comming from a G73 owner, stay away. The hassle of owning a G73 has been really bad. I've owned mine for 4 months and it's been RMA'ed 2 times and the power adapters died on me 3 times already.

I just wish I wasn't being a tightwad when buying it... Should have went with a Clevo.
