Hi all, just got hold of my Clevo P650HP6-G and upgraded it to the max specs that it could take and I was wondering if there are any docking stations out there like Lenovo and HP for the P650 where I can easily remove the laptop from the station and also have the keyboard, mouse and the screen connected to the station instead of the laptop itself as I want to replace my current rig at home with my laptop. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

You can find some good USB C docks online. I don't know any specifics, but I'm sure it won't take too much research to find one that suits you.

Any brands that you can point me in the right direction to? There's quite a few brands just from a google search of USB C docks

If your machine had a Thunderbolt port, you could get a single dock to connect everything. As it doesn't, and since the laptop has most every port built into it anyway, there really isn't much point. It takes, what, a few extra seconds to disconnect 4-5 cables instead of just one?

Yeah I know, it's more of a convenience thing because I got used to undocking and docking my HP laptop at work without the need for pulling out all the cables

Wait do you have thunderbolt 3?
Also what all do you need to plug in to the dock?

Nope, my P650 doesn't have thunderbolt, only USB C.

I have two monitors to hook it up to, a keyboard, a mouse and a gamepad along with LAN.

Exactly. A thunderbolt port would be nice, but I heard the installation is a little messy (lol)

I hope you find a nice docking solution, I'm in the same boat.
Connecting/disconnecting all those cords is a pretty tested and proven method, but if I have an option to simplify I'm going to use it!

The main problem is that video output over USB is not ideal because it doesn't use either the computer's integrated or discrete GPU. Thunderbolt can pass a DisplayPort signal so those docks would work in conjunction with the NVIDIA GPU - it even supports G-Sync. I suppose you could use a standard USB-C dongle that has extra full-size ports, SD Card reader, and Ethernet, but you really should have the monitor connected directly to the PC.

True, true. I was hoping there might be a solution similar to my old work lenovo dock, but honestly I haven't even started to look for a dock solution yet. So far I've spent a lot of time tweaking my P650 and haven't even thrown it in a backpack. Heck it's still untainted by the internet ;)

Yeah I wish there was a solution like HP or Lenovo's docking system. At work, I use a HP Folio 9480M which is compatible with the HP dock and it's as simple as pulling or pushing a slider to dock and undock.

Yeah seems like you're right with USB not using the GPU. I might need to connect my screens to the laptop itself. Urgh I wish my P650 had thunderbolt. I'll try looking around for a dock and then connect my screens to the laptop itself I guess.

Indeed that is true, usb screens are fine for documents and lower resolution video playback so most office tasks. But if you need acceleration it will have to be plugged into the ports.

Some displays let you chain the display port so you could have a single input to the machine using that.

If that's all, I recommend this. I'm using this for ethernet, mouse, and sound card with no problems so I think it will work fine for you. You're still going to have to plug in the screens, and the power jack, but it's still reduces the amount by 2 cables for only $15

Thanks for the explanation! I saw your post on the other thread that was linked as well.

Thanks for the link, I'll add that to the list of dongles to consider
