Right so i have my NP9262 and ive tried to connect it by ethernet cable to my brothers Sky netgear router, but it doesnt work it just keeps saying something about a cable not being plugged in, what could do this. i have the ethernet cable connected so why is it saying that no cable is connected?

generally if it says cable not connected it means you are using a crossover cable in stead of a straight (or patch) cable

that could be the case if the switch does not support auto-detection of the link type. it could also be as the other poster suggested, and the device could be disabled. it could also be that you have a bad port on your switch, that your cable has a short or is not properly bonded at the RJ45 ends, or that your onboard NIC is trying to auto-negotiate (or possibly) force the switch to do speed negotiations that are not supported by one of the devices.

All of that being said, usually the top three causes are:

1.) nic is disabled in device manager
    2.) bad cable
3.) improper manually set speed settings on the NIC

I wouldn't think the nic is disabled as it wouldn't say cable not connected, it'd just ignore it...
