    Hi all,

Thanks for all the information about Sager and Clevo, it's really helped me a lot. While I was reading the Clevo Guide v2.0 FAQ I noticed that the last section talks about using the laptop on a smooth flat surface and recommends using a laptop cooler. My question is how realistic is this warning.

Currently I have a MacBook Pro that everyone said got too hot to use. While it does get warm, I've had no problems (for 2.5 years now) putting it on my lap while sitting on the couch or something similar. Even while playing games for 4-6 hours at a time. With the M570TU all the fans seem to be on the bottom of the case and I worry that by putting the computer on my lap I may block said fans, causing problems.

Is there anyone who actually uses the M570TU on their lap? Have things gone badly (hardware overheating and ruining your computer) or have things gone okay?

I would invest in getting a lap-rest/cooler for like 20 bucks. Not only is it comfortable on your lap, but it would keep those fans from being blocked. Belkin offers one (essentially it's just a crazy curved pillow thing).

I can't imagine blocking the fans would be good for any computer. The MacBook's obviously don't have fans on the bottom of the case so it's a different scenario here.

    Welcome to NBR forums!! :D

As such Sager can easily run cool enough w/o the cooler! but if u need to game on it for prolonged periods then a cooler is recommended to keep the components cool!!

its not like if u don't use a cooler, it'll melt or something! lol! its just for ppl like me who want their machines to run cooler nd thereby prolonging their lifetime!! :)

U can use M570RU in ur lap if its running on batteries! as everything underclocks and it runs significantly cooler!!
don't keep it on the lap while gaming + when its plugged in!! base gets quite heated up!! :)

I personally use Zalman NC2000 and it lowered my idle temps by 9-10C !!! :D Totally worth it! :) - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=235021

    (awesome guide by X2P!! tks! :D )

I'd recommend a cooler since its a high spec notebook nd needs utmost care and respect!! :p :D

more exclamation marks!! go sohail!! :D

ahem. technically, no laptop should require a cooler. Clevos especially are well-known for their good cooling systems. however, investing a comparatively small sum in a good laptop cooler (NZXT Cryo LX or Zalman NC2000) can go a long way towards protecting your 2500$ laptop from damage through heat. therefore, i would recommend getting one of the aforementioned coolers.

    Thanks for the quick replies!

I'm not worried about the cost so much, more about the extra weight and size. But it sounds like the safe bet is just to get one. Can you use the coolers on your lap, or does it just make the whole ensemble too big?

I bought the Zalman for my new 5797 and it's quiet and I can use it on my lap with no problem.

MY laptop gets so hot that I have to invest in a laptop cooler, that is the drawback of having a real desktop replacement.

I use my 5796 most of hte time on my lap...normally i use a cooler, but not always, and lately i have been using it more in the bed room during the morning/late night while gaming..If i use the laptop cooler while i have my bed sheets between myself and the cooler i see about a 2degree drop this is over sheets mind you..

    GPU w/cooler 69-70c
    GPU wo/cooler 71-72c
    Cpu w/cooler 48c
    CPU wo/cooler 52c

Now when it is in my lap with or with out cooler i have my legs kinda indian style so the edge of the laptop is touching the inside of my knees, which leaves a gap for the vents and stuff...

So i do not think a cooler is required, though one can't hurt...

I game for many hours at a time...

    Hope that helps a little
