There is a feature called "Alt Mode" which allows a USB-C port (if it supports Alt Mode) to deliver video over USB-C without any drivers so it's Plug&Play. You can read more about this here.

    My P750DM2-G has a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port and a Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) / USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 combo and it is powered by PremaMod BIOS / EFI.

I do know that I can change the DDI Control setting which will disable one of my DP ports and enable video over the Thunderbird port but I believe this is different than Alt Mode for USB-C unless I am mistaken.

I need to know this so I can make a decision whether to get a USB-C to HDMI adapter that supports Alt mode.

I don't believe it does, only display port porting over the thunderbolt ports.

Thanks, as a matter of fact display port porting over the thunderbolt port does work. In my case, when running xrandr on my GNU/Linux system, it sees it as a "DP" so it appears that all it does is detours the video from the DP port to the TB port.

You can change that option in the BIOS to either route it to the Displayport outputs or thunderbolt ports.

Yeah, I did, it's in "Advanced Menu > Advanced Chipset Control" and it's called DDI Control which can be set to DDI to DP or DDI to TB. The USB-C to HDMI adapter that I have says "no drivers required" and "Plug&Play" but it doesn't specifically mention it features Alt / Alternative mode support and there is another one that I saw which specifically mentions "Alt Mode". But on this site, there is a section called "DisplayPort over Alt Mode" which talks about "DisplayPort Alt Mode (DP Alt Mode)" .

Yes and that has not been implemented on this model. The displayport is either routed through the TB3 chip or the displayport directly.
