I have had 3 Sager laptops over the past 3 years. I have had to return all them due to excessive noise while idling or light web browsing. The fans will just kick on for no reason and spin really loud. I need my laptop to be quiet in areas such as the library and I can't have it making excessive noise. I'm willing to under clock or down volt the CPU to maintain the fan speed if I have to. I am fine with it being loud during game you really can't avoid that but I would prefer it to be pretty quiet while not under load.

Does anyone know if you can manually control the fan or if there is a better fan profile to flash the bios with? I"m debating getting a 8258 but I want to make sure this problem is solved before I go ahead. I would be open to any quieter laptops at 15.6 inch you might know of as well.

I have an 8258-S, and when idle the fans don't even run. It's absolutely quiet.

When the fans do spin up, it ramps up slowly, and I honestly don't even hear the fans on the first level. The second level the fans are marginally noticeable but still quiet. And it still has plenty of ramping up after that.

Other people who own the 8258's confirm that the fan profiles keep the noise down fairly nicely.

Doing movie watching and standard browsing, I rarely have the fans kick off.

It also likely depends on your ambient temperature in the room in question.

Thanks for the info. I think you just sold me on the 8258-2. :)
