I have a NP8170 with the 580m and was wondering if its possible to upgrade to the nVidia GeForce GTX 680M ? I know it has Optimus Technology, what other components would they have to upgrade for that to work too?

You probably should contact them, but it'll probably end up costing more than your laptop to upgrade to 680M.

I think at R&J the 680m is about $800 right now. It would probably be worthwhile to wait, see if the 7970m drivers get better (or the 680m price drops, which it probably won't) and install it yourself.

yeah. $800, then sell off the 580M to recoup a few hundred. Not a bad upgrade cost.

Since you have an HM model, you wont have to worry about the Enduro issues, so perhaps the 7970M will work well for you and save you a few hundred bucks. Drivers should only gonna get better from here!
