Does it matter where I buy from?

    Hey everyone!

I just have a question on all the different kinds of Clevo re-sellers on the market right now.

What's the difference between buying directly from companies like XoticPC or Powernotebooks, or buying a Clevo directly from companies like RJ Tech, Pro-Star, or Sager?

Or more direct: can I get some feedback on some of these retailers?

The reason I ask is because after a ton of research, one of these companies currently is offering me the best price for the notebook and specs I want, but I was just wondering if I was missing anything by going one route instead of any of the others?

    Thanks!

There is an entire subforum here dedicated for Clevo reseller feedback:

Sager Reseller and Clevo Reseller Forum, Sager Laptops

All the companies you listed are Clevo resellers. Their offers can differ in prices (obviously), configuration options, warranty conditions, shipping conditions and post sales support.

If you buy a "Sager" branded computer, regardless of where you get it from it will be built at Sager, and often times ships directly from them to you unless you add upgrades that require it to ship to the reseller first.. If it is not a "Sager" then that builder either has directly imported from Clevo, or bought barebones from someone who has and are building it under their name. There are only 3 companies in the US that purchase directly from Clevo, they are Sager, Pro-Star, and Eurocom.

You're forgetting Mythlogic, OriginPC, iBuyPower & CyberpowerPC (unless IBP and CPP are the same; I heard that before).

Unless some of them buy from Sager themselves, though their configurators suggest otherwise.

Only the 3 I mentioned buy directly from Clevo, its been that way for years :). As to who the ones you mentioned buy from, you'd have to ask them directly. However they typically offer then own warranties and services unique to those companies, so it really doesn't matter where they get it from. And in the end they are all coming from Clevo.

Whether it matters or not is up to the deal you're getting and what you want from the company. As Hutsady mentioned, most resellers resell Sagers, in which case all of the warranty service is through Sager. Those that buy directly from Clevo and brand Clevo products as their own perform their own warranty service.

Also: Eurocom is not based in the U.S. :)

To clear any confusion about these, I usually specify "Continental North America" whenever I say that. Many people don't count Canada as part of NA for some weird weird reason.

Weird indeed ... though in their defense; until only 5 years ago Denmark was for 98.0% part of North America, but few would've considered it a non-European country.

Double confirming, good poutine for lunch eh?

In all seriousness, as Hutsady pointed out we are one of three companies in North America who buys direct from Clevo, and we're the only Canadian company to do so.

We build to suit all of our units and we're always looking at ways to push more performance out of Eurocom units: It's why we use IC Diamond thermal paste standard instead of the pre-applied paste, we tried a whole bunch of pastes to find the best performing one too! It's why our production team is always looking at ways to put more powerful and non-standard components in Eurocom systems. Etc.

Just because we're Canadian doesn't mean we won't ship to you, as well. We've shipped our units all around the world, from Asia to our own neighbours down south and in between.
