I know the laptop uses a PM45 chipset which should support a quad, but would there be problems with the bios, etc.?

    No. It cannot take quads.

Why is that? Is it because of the bios? Too much heat? WHYYY?

The system BIOS, the cooling system, and the motherboard doesn't support it.

Not all PM45 chipsets have all of the features enabled.

The NP2096 can't support quads either I'm guessing, correct? I read that the Compal JHL90 can run a quad, but I guess the info was inaccurate...

Right. The NP2096 cannot support quads either. That info on the JHL90 running a quad is complete bollocks.

Yeah. The Chinese sellers do that to attract more customers. They also did the same thing with the M860TU before the revised motherboard existed.

You can always buy an M860TU with a quad and downclock the GPU.

$1200 budget, lol. The only feasible alternative I can see at the moment is to get a Asus G51 from bestbuy for $899 by bartering with the salesmen (someone was able to do this) and then upgrade to a Q9200 for $250 which will equal $1150 or so. I have no idea what a Q9200 will do to that thing however considering that the GPU gets up to 100ºC with a P7350, lol. Since I'm mostly going to be using it for photoshop and video editing, it is unlikely that the GPU will get that high however.
