Can you guy help me with the following question?
I own a clevo P170SM (sager 8275-S) and I would like to upgrade its GPU (Nvidia GTX 770m -> Nvidia GTX 1070) buying it from eurocom since they provide both the necessary hardware and software (the prema BIOS in this case)
http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(2,360,0)CLEVO_P170SM_SAGER_NP8278
but before I want to get sure that this upgrade fit to my needs. Looking for the most likely steps that will be necessary to follow on this laptop I found this:
https://premamod.wordpress.com/2017/08/15/j95-nvidia-inf/
The tutorial needs to delete some folders in order to modify the Nvidia drivers.
Could this changes be a problem affecting significantly the GPU behavior for development purposes (using the GPU CUDA capabilities for deep learning like tensorflow)?

Ask for pictures of the card and power limit.
It seems from the bits of info floating about there's a new black pcb gecube 1070 that has a stronger vrm. The old green pcb gecube 1070 has a POS setup with a terrible failure rate. (The other option, the MSI 1070 is excellent but is a weird shape that doesn't fit in the P170 chassis)
I've been contacted by multiple people unhappy with poor performance from Eurocom 1070s and in each case it looks like the vbios is limited below the stock 115W - they've been sold a "MaxQ" underclocked card without disclosure first. Unfortunately it's not like anyone else offers a simple all-in-one upgrade kit but you should insist on knowing exactly what you're going to get beforehand and then hold them to it. -

Well the original vrm gecube is setup for a maxq power draw certainly.

Even they recently added a specification saying that if the upgrade is for the GTX 1070 a modded bottom case purchase is also needed. Though I will risk skipping this purchase and modify my original bottom case to make some space.
But actually it would't hurt to ask for some pictures beforehand as you say. Just to be sure. I recently put me on contact with eurocom's support service asking for that shrunken GTX 1070 GPU. They told me that they don't have them and they don't know if they are going to acquire more in near future.
Again, thanks for the recommendation!Vasudev likes this. -
