    Hello,

I have the Clevo p170em with the 7970m and I have enough of the problems with the drivers and under utilization. I play mainly League of Legends and I would like to be able to have a high framerate which with the 7970 I can't achieve cause the card is working at 65% even with the latest 13.11 beta 6. I tried the direct x 9 fix and the13.11 Mobility Beta3(Enduro MOD) without any changes.

So I am inclined to buy the 770m and install it. Will I have there such problems? Is it compatible? What fps can I except? Is there a market for used 7970m so I can sell mine?

Many thanks in advance for your responses.

If you decide to sell your 7970m, I'm interested.

The 7XXM wont work in the EM models. You can put a 670M/MX 675M/MX or 680M.

Low performance on League of Legends? how bad is it for you to contemplate getting a new card? I run LoL on max settings and it runs smoothly. I have limited the fps to 60 from the in-game settings.

However, I just loaded up a custom game and uncapped the fps, turned all the settings to max including anti-aliasing at 1080p. Game runs at around 210fps at the starting point.

I don't why you would sell the 7970m for this game =S

Have you tried a clean removal of the drivers, then installing the video driver (whichever version)?

Driver sweeper can remove a lot of important stuff and that's why it's recommended only as a last resort.

Never heard that. So we're supposed to manually delete everything Amd, including in the registry? Not too fond of that.

That's not usually required when installing new drivers.

I used to have issues with the 7970m. I have the 150EM and sometimes when I boot the laptop, GPU utilization is at 99% even though it's just the game launcher. When playing and is at a constant 99%, I get temps of around 74c.

If I reboot the laptop, sometimes a couple of times, then utilization would go back to normal. Normal being it fluctuates from 20% util during launcher window, and around 60% to 70% during game. Temps are at a constant 60-65c.

I have not noticed any FPS increase when utilization is at a constant 99%. It only heats up my card by 10%.

Back to topic. Driver sweeper sometimes fixed this. Sometimes not. I'm not sure why. After a clean install, it's the same thing.

With driver sweeper however, I have gotten less BSOD's. and games run very smooth. I used to get a choppy motion when not using it..

Sorry for off-topic. I might just as well as mention it if somebody else has a similar issue...

    Thanks

    Sev

Driver sweeper can cause all sorts of issues, I would try a nuke from orbit approach at this point and re-install the OS.

This works for me. Unistall old drivers using AMD Catalyst uninstall, reboot, run driver fusion to remove remain amd files, reboot, install new drivers, reboot.

Sometimes I'll skip uninstalling via the amd catalyst program and go straight to driver fusion to remove the files, and that has worked fine too. But I think the first method I mentioned above would be best.

Can't speak to LoL performance. I don't own the game. But a lot of the underutilization issues I experienced in the past have greatly improved or are gone with either the official or LeeKM's drivers, although I've been preferring LeekM's drivers recently.
