Would appreciate feedback on spec'n a laptop. Narrowed search down to D900C vs M570U. Specs could go something like this... max out video card, 2 gb of ram, probably one notch down from top core 2 duo with 7200 rpm xxx gb.

I want to achieve the best performance in high end 3d design and graphics programs.

I have read about the M570RU and seen the pics, I like it and can wait a couple of months for it and any new technology just around the corner,

Any specifics feedback on the dream machine specs would be appreciated. Figure budget of $4500.

Hold off for a bit if you want the Dream Machine of 2007. The Santa Rosa / GeForce 8M combination has not just yet hit the market.

if you dont mind the weight and dismal batterylife, get the world's fastest notebook:
    - Clevo D900C

If you plan on bring it around more often and want some more batterylife, then get the:
    - Clevo M570U/RU

Yup, that's the same situation I'm in: the best laptop possible with a $4000+ budget. Then you can get: (as configured on powernotebooks.com)

    Sager NP9260 (Clevo D900C)
    -17" WUXGA (or WSXGA+) screen
-Dual 7950 GTX 512MB in SLI - a must if you're wanting the best gaming performance
-Core 2 Duo (desktop version) E6700 @ 2.66 GHz - the 2.93 GHz Core 2 Extreme is available for about $750 more; it's not worth it at all unless you have a money tree.
    -2GB DDR2 800 (or 4GB if you want)
    -480GB (3 x 160GB) hard drives, 7200 RPM
    -Vista Home Premium

    Total Price: ~$3974

Of course, if you can wait a little while (end of summer?) the 8700M GT is rumored to be coming, with performance similar to (or better than) the 7950GTX, but DX10 capable.

Alrighty. Many thanks for the advice everyone. Got my eye on the flashier RU, but not wed to it. Going to wait a bit for 8M to hit market and compare against current best.

Any opinions about the Quadro FX2500M vs the 7950? Would the Quadro be the better choice for high end 3d graphics design?

Quadro's are not better for gaming, just optimized for OpenGL and 3D work.

I do not feel that the money that you pay for the Quadro is worth it.. unless if you have the budget.

    the 7950GTX = Quadro 3500M
    the 7900GTX = Quadro 2500M
    the 7800GTX = Quadro 1500M

the bang for the buck are the Geforces for sure.

I have been working on 3Ds Max and Maya with my 7800GTX, absolutely no problems. :)

He does not feel that the Quadro is worth it. Means the Quadro is not worth the extra money. I agree with him.

Can you not just get the GeForce version and then reflash the BIOS to make it the Quadro? I have heard of people doing this with the Dell XPS M1710/Precision M90....

Yeah, but there are no surefire ways to do it...you could screw it up. And it does void the warranty. Quadro cards are tweaked to run just a little better with professional level applications.

It will be there, but definitely not by mid-June. Look for the Santa Rosa updates of the Clevo 570/900C and Dell XPS M1710.
