I have an M860TU or (Kobalt Nexus) notebook and i've just tried to update my GPU driver.
I uninstalled the driver with windows from Device manager but now it won't let me install the other driver (186.55) Everytime i restart the computer it automatically installs some stock driver instead.
What do i do? I cant find the Restart in Safe Mode option either. I have Vista x64 bit if that helps any.
Thanks in advance. Any advice is welcome. Even if its to tell me i have a pea brain.

Also i've tried to just use the update driver option but Windows just tells me that the driver is 'up to date' or something and won't install the new driver.

Maybe the v186.55 driver is not WHQL certified? Vista 64-bit edition does not allow non-WHQL drivers to be installed on the computer. Or, maybe the driver is meant for a 32-bit version of Vista. You need to get the 64-bit version of the driver.

If I'm not wrong, your graphics card is a NVIDIA 9800M GT. If so, try this link where you can download the driver for the 9800M GT. This driver is the latest, WHQL certified and made for 64-bit version of Vista.

You shouldn't double-post. The "Edit" button is there for a reason ;)

Driver Cleaner.NET should eliminate any trace of your nvidia driver.

you will find folder in system32 called driver backup where your os reserve copy of your drivers thats why it installed aut. and you can't delete this folder except by drivercleaner.
