    Hey guys,

I just received my NP8170 with an ATI 6970. However, the AMD driver from their site won't install, as I supposedly don't have the right hardware ;).

Now I'm curious, is there another site I can get the drivers from? Or at least older drivers? It appears I have driver version 8.10 or something installed...

    Thanks

    Franz

I had the same problem. you need a driver with a modified INF file here is the newest AMD catalyst driver for your vid card.

edit: make sure to first UNinstall the previous driver which failed (if it did install)

Nice, thanks. Does AMD require that I uninstall everything installed prior, or does it generally not matter?

Edit: In the course of it I did uninstall everything and installed an (ancient?) catalyst thing v. 11.4. So that's what I have now.

Uninstall everything by using the ATI Catalyst Install Manager and select Express Uninstall ALL, then restart the computer and install the newer drivers. Your screen may flicker and resolution might go down to 640x480 or something really low during the uninstall/install procedure.

My Clevo laptop needs specific graphics drivers aswell for my 6970m, I can't just download them from ati's homepage.

I had to go to CLEVO - Download and find the specific drivers for my model, however it was only showing drivers for the 6990M, knowing these drivers works for the 6xxx generation, I didn't hesitate to download this and update drivers. Works perfectly and drivers are updated often (the one I DL'ed was updated 2011/8/1) That is august 1st.

    Maybe Sager have something similar?
