I had a question about drivers on Sager laptops. I thought they came barebones and you had to put them on yourself. I ordered a higher end one for myself several months back and went to sagers website for th model, grabbed all the drivers and put them on myself. It didn't seem to have anything on it really. No soundblaster drivers, graphics drivers, ect.

Well i just got a lower end one for my sister for Xmas. The Sager NP565 through LPC-Digital. This time i just did the order straight through the website instead of calling it in. I went and grabbed all the drivers from Sagers website but when i turned it on to put them on it appeared that it had stuff on it already. It looks like the sound blaster drivers are in, the Nvidia ones, ect. Im not sure about stuff like the chipset drivers, or MEI drivers, card reader, or stuff like that as im not sure where they would be under device manager.

Whats the deal do some models come with drivers already installed? Should i just leave it be? If i was going to try to just install the ones i downloaded; Can i just run the ones i downloaded over the old ones or do i have to uninstall the old ones first?

if you ordered it with an OS installed, it probably has drivers installed as well.

    ^this.
if you configure the lappy with ssd/hdd, ram, gpu, cpu, OS then it will be good to go so just press the button and setup windows. the lappy will have gone through testing and burn in with all the drivers loaded that are recommended for that model. thats why sometimes you cant find the certain drivers on their site as they are OEM specific.

if you order barebone then exactly the same is done as above for all the tests and then the bits you didnt order are removed>

If you purchase the computer with the OS as mentioned, then everything should be loaded and ready to go when you get it. If you got it without an OS, then yes you would have to install that. It might be possible that a driver might not be added on, like the fingerprint scanner driver on some models. But normally it should come ready to go when you pick the OS.

huh. Weird. Yea it looks like the stuff is there so i guess i'll just go ahead and let it do windows update and do my own quick tests.

Weird though. The one i had ordered several months back did have an OS too (SSD/HDD combo as well) but it seemed not to have any of the drivers on it. I wonder what was up with that. I DID let it connect to the internet when i started it up though and windows 10 did a bunch of garbage and updates automatically without my consent. Maybe that screwed something up on mine?

Well bottom line is that it sounds like this one for my sister should have the stuff on it already i guess. If i did want to install the drivers i had downloaded do i need to hunt down and remove the old ones or do they automatically uninstall and replace the old ones when you run the executable? Stuff like the chipset drivers, card reader, touchpad, ect.

If you get one without it set up properly when you have ordered an OS you should contact your reseller.

Drivers will tend to just go over the top of old ones just fine.
