For some reason I reformatted my computer and the ATI graphics card driver wasn't with the disc that I recieved. By any chance does anyone have a link to it? Tried google for the last 20 minutes and ATI's website but their catalyst isnt working either.

I think someone else mentioned that it's on the disc but not on the menu. Try browsing your CD.

Maybe you should use driver sweeper to remove all old files. AMD Catalyst 11.4 works perfectly fine for me whereas only the CD driver worked for me before the 11.4 came out.

I Downloaded and installed the catalyst center but whenever I right click and click on the catalyst center nothing pops up...

The drivers aren't even acknowledged as drivers and the max resolution I can goto is 1400x1050...

I just got my 8150-S1 today. I'm about to uninstall the current drivers they had installed (I think they are the 10.12ish).

I wouldn't mind a bit more info before I remove them though.

I think you should definitely get Driver Sweeper from Phyxion.net and remove all the remaining AMD display driver files. Catalyst control center did not do anything for me either when I installed 11.3(after wiping all the driver files which gives me a fresh install), because 11.3 did not support my 6970M.

When you are installing the 11.4 driver, select custom instead of express install and see if ATI Display Driver is listed as one of the component that is going to be installed.

About the resolution part, it happened to me also. I could not get my monitor to go higher than 1600x900. This is what I did and it fixed that problem. If you see the option "Multiple Displays" at the Screen Resolution control panel, choose "Show desktop only on 1" and it would allow me to raise the resolution to 1920x1080.

You can download Sager's driver here:

Hey, I had the same problem. The 'official' 11.4 mobility will not work, because for some reason they don't detect the card in this notebook. Even the modded drivers would not work ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/571199-amd-catalyst-11-4-8-841-april-5-win7-vista.html) until I installed the drivers off the disc first. If you have the disc that came with the laptop click on the menu option 'browse cd', and then you should see a folder with the VGA drivers. Or better yet just click 'Install drivers' on the menu list and it will give you an option to install the video drivers. If you can't find them I'll rip them off my disc and upload them somewhere for you.

Were you trying the preview 11.4? That one didn't work. The official 11.4 that came out in April 27 works though.

    What you are doing:
    1. Install driver from disc
    2. Install 11.4 preview

When you do this select "Custom" installation instead of "Express" and you will notice that "ATI Display Driver" is not installed. You are just updating the control center and not your actual driver. When you install the driver on the disc it will show "ATI Display Driver" when you select "Custom" installation because it actually detects the card.

Catalyst 11.3 didn't work but this official 11.4 worked even after I wipe everything with Driver Sweeper. It detected my card and installed driver.

Don't know how any of you got the 11.4 driver from the AMD website to work, because this is the message I receive when I run the installer.

    @ TheGreatAnonymous

Please do not do what I have done, I replaced the hard drive it came with and swapped to an SSD I purchased. If you don't have the ATI Driver, use Eurocoms driver section and download the 8.01. Do NOT use Sagers website as they have THE slowest servers. As for what mrPico recommended I'll give that a run right now but for me when I reformatted my computer and had NO drivers installed it didn't work.

EDIT: @ MrPico I did what you suggested but My drivers seem to be the same version still. I did the custom installation and nope nothing still.

For some reason the stupid Mobility downloader does not recognize the 6970M. However, if you have a friend with a notebook with an ATI GPU that is recognized, the Mobility downloader will get the actual driver package and save it to disk. You can copy this package to your 8170 and it will install just fine. This is what I did and it worked well.

Otherwise, you can get the original driver from Sager here: Software Upgrade

    @irablumberg

I tried running the actual installer too. Exact filename is 11-4_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe. It starts the installation process, I select the 'custom' option, and when I get to the screen that lists everything to be installed there is no driver offered. The only thing it wants to install/update is Catalyst Control Center. Now the modded 11.4 drivers do work for me (from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/571199-amd-catalyst-11-4-8-841-april-5-win7-vista.html), but the official drivers have been a no go. However, I've just been using the original drivers from the included disc with no issues so far. Very strange how others have gotten the official 11.4 drivers to install though.

The driver package that I got and ran expanded into a directory called "11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl". I went into this directory and ran setup.exe and it installed all the software including the driver.

OK, did a Google search for the exact string you listed: 11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl. Came across another thread on this site on the Asus forum ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...md-official-whql-drivers-11-4-released-4.html). Downloaded the file, and it gave me the option to update the video driver. Now the download from that Asus thread came directly from ATI's servers, but when I was going to the usual Catalyst page and selecting all the options from the drop downs to download a driver it never gave me this file, so I'm kind of confused as to how others managed to come across this specific driver packaging, and why the other file I was trying did not work, especially since I have another ATI laptop and that same file I tried previously installs 11.4 drivers on that machine without a hitch. I guess ATI is just weird like that when it comes to drivers.

Did you get it all sorted out now TGA, and are the drivers that you're currently using giving you any problems at all? I've been monitoring this thread as I'm on the fence between choosing between a 6970M and 485M - so, this particular topic is of interest to me. Hope no one minds the free bump.

Yup... That's the one I have too "11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl". Weird that AMD have different drivers.

I was able to install 11.4 WHQL, after having installed the driver off of the disk first.

    In GPU-Z, 11.4 = 8.841.0.0
