I've had my W230ST for a few months now and I've been happy with it. Now I want to dual boot the system with LinuxMint. As people here know there are 2 msata slots on the system. My current setup is that I have 1 128 gb msata drive (Windows 8 OS) and a 750 Gb physical drive for storage.

My question is if I get another msata to fill the the last remaining slot, can I dual boot that way? My plan is to keep all linux programs into that new msata hdd so I have no issue partitioning/sharing my existing drives for linux. I just need linux to access the physical drive for music and movies I already have stored.

I just want to know if this would be a possibility or am I making things too difficult for myself? Any help/advice would be appreciated.

You dont need 2 ssds' to dual boot. Just put both linux and windows on your msata ssd.

You can dual boot that way in a sense, but you will be opting for the boot selection menu at start up (F7) each time you want to choose the second drive with the other OS. As hailgod mentioned, you can install Linux to the same drive as Windows is installed to. If you install Linux after your Windows installation, then you can use the Grub 2 boot selection menu at each startup.

I have no problem dual-booting on different drives on my machine. You can point your Grub2 to a partition on a different drive just fine.

Thanks for the advice guys. I understand installing along side of windows in the same drive. I tend to be a linux distro hopper at times. So I want to leave the Windows 8 msata alone. I don't have a problem hitting F7 for boot select...I should of thought of that. ...thanks ProStar.

When I first got the laptop I tried installing LinuxMint 15 but I had problems with the install. Make a long story short, I didn't have much time to trouble shoot because I was getting deployed overseas. But I read somewhere that UEFI settings could cause problems on installing it. This is my first laptop/pc with UEFI. Does LinuxMint 16 handle this better?
