    I ordered my 9260 with Vista 64 (because I already have XP). I want to dual boot XP and Vista. I googled dual booting with Vista pre-installed and found this nice step-by-step procedure:

    http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp

    Now the only issue I have with this procedure is one of the final steps where you boot from your Vista CDROM and do a "repair" in order to fix the Vista boot loader.

    Anyway, I noticed that the CDROMs that ship with the Sager are not Windows OEM versions. Instead they are called "recovery" CDs.

    I'm sure someone has used these already... do they behave like Vista OEM CDROMs and have a boot menu with options like "install" and "repair"?

    Or do these simply restore a partition with a backup image?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

    Thanks!

    I support a Sager reseller, so I can reassure you here. The "recovery CDs" that Sager ships are simply rebranded OEM Windows CDROMs. They work exactly like every other Windows CD ROM out there.

    @handbanana:

    Dual booting just means that you have two different operating systems installed on your computer, allowing you to boot to either one. A lot of users who have applications that only work in either XP or Vista need the versatility of XP AND Vista. Dual-booting allows this.

    Oh I see. So I could install XP and Vista, but only use XP. And then when new service pack comes out for Vista, I can use that one right? Will the files be shared on both, or will I have to transfer them back and forth?

    All user files (e.g., the documents and settings folder on XP and the users folder on Vista") would only be available between both if you did not password protect your user accounts (bad idea). If you install the same programs on both, you will end up with 2 different Program Files folders (and two different Windows folders). It's better to set up a "documents" folder on your root that you can then place a shortcut to in both XP AND Vista if you want to share files between both OS's.
