I've buying an external HDD, "My Book Home" with esata, but when I connect my HDD to my computer, vista blocks and on XP it purpose me to format it.

Anyone have the same problem ? I've installed the ICH9 Family Intel and vista install automatically the Western Digital drivers.

Same here. I haven't used my Esata cable in a while since I started getting errors (Vista taking an extremely long time to start up, Windows Explorer becoming unresponsive not detecting the drive. But I will attempt it again soon if there are any more chipset updates.

Or maybe it is meant for a mac, so it should be formated for .windows

    Hi Baptiste,

It was not for esata, but for the HDD itself.

No it's not an SSD but an Xpresscard like this one: http://www.amazon.com/DATA-interface-ExpressCard®-ReadyBoost-function/dp/B001L28JJU
It was an option with the 860TU and I was hoping to put .xp on it, but before that could happen I tripped over the firewire chipset which was not happy with audio interfaces

I also got problem with eSATA too. Western Digital 500gb
I've recently bought an external box that has eSATA (I used to use USB2.0 box).
I tried to use eSATA with my NP8660, windows explorer became not responding, and I can't access my drive.
Then I switch it back to the old box, and check if everything is ok. What I detected is a bunch of bad sector appeared =/
    Don't know what happened.
My box fault? or my eSATA port in NP8660 fault? or it's my HDD doesn't support eSATA?

Try formatting the drive to NTFS, update your eSATA drivers and try again.

    Hi,

    Same problem here!
I've a WD MyBook StudioEdition 500GB NTFS formatted and Vista 64.

No problem at all with USB, but when I try to connect it with E-Sata cable, Vista hangs and does not recognize external drive at all.

WD MyBook Studio has already the latest firmware (1034_1_3 January 2009).

On Vista I tried both Intel Matrix storage driver 8.5.0.1032 and the latest one 8.7.0.1007 with no luck.

    Any fix or help ?

    Thanking in advance

    Paolo (from Italy)

Well, looks like a lot of us have to send our computers to the factory if that's the case.

Seriously, I think this is a BIOS thing.

Also for me it's only a (buggy) BIOS issue.

I don't think this issue related to a mobo hardware fault.

Question : do you have tested esata connection along with the last clevo firmware update (1.0.13) ?

I upgraded bios yesterday, but Ive not yet tested with my wd drive.

    Thanking in advance,

    Paolo Fornara
