    Thanks

On paper, it looks like a very nice machine. I'd also like to see screen quality, location of ports, and battery life before final judgement. But it looks pretty handy. To your question, 512mb of memory is more than enough to get you going. You probably would be better of starting with the 512mb, and then buying an additional 512mb from a third-party vendor. The only thing that stinks about that is usually with 512mb, manufacturers give you two 256mb sticks. So when you want to upgrade to 1 gig, you still have to purchase 2 512mb sticks...pain in the arse.

Question about the optical drive.....do you mean dual is in the new Dual Layer format? or just that it does +/- and R/RW?

    Thanks Big C

So you dont recommed I buy 1 gig from the manufacturer but instead buy 1 slot of 512 and then buy a 3rd party 512mb ram?

Any recommendation on ram maker and how much am I saving ? any guess?

    Thanks[ :)]

I'd up the processor to the 3400+, wait for the WSXGA+ or WUXGA screen in a few months, and go with one 512MB stick of RAM. I'd also definitely get the "bg" wireless card. It would be foolish to limit yourself to only "b". They will also allow you to get a 4X Panasonic DVD burner if you request it. This will be my next laptop, but I'm waiting on the new screens personally.

I'm hoping the 3800+ is available by the time the screens are updated.

If you just get one 512 MB stick of memory you save enough to get the faster processor and most likely have enough left over to add the other 512 MB stick yourself. I can't be certain, but I think the 3400+ has about 15% better performance.

WSXGA+ is about 1600 by 1000, WUXGA is about 1900 by 1200. Some people think WUXGA is too fine for comfortable viewing, but almost everyone agrees WSXGA+ is preferable to anything less. You'll have to decide for yourself. I want all the res I can get personally.

Many AP's in public places support "g" and you don't want to be stuck with "b" if you upgrade a home, espeially with the price of routers nearing $50. "g" is very nice and well worth the slight upgrade cost.

You should e-mail their support staff about the drive, that's what I did.

Oh yeah, this is a great gaming machine. Only the EE P4's can match it, but a PC configured wih one would cost twice as much. [ ;)]
