I was looking into getting a EUROCOM SKY MX5 R2 (Clevo 650) with the 15.6 inch 4K SHARP IGZO LQ156D1JX01B screen and I was wondering if anyone here has any feedback on them.

The reason why I am wanting to go with Eurocom is that I reside in Canada and with the 10% student discount it works out to be a better price.

I went through the forums and did not see much info on the 15.6 inch 4K SHARP IGZO LQ156D1JX01B. Its supposed to be the same screen used in the Dell XPS 15 but I wanted to get feedback on this screen in the Clevo 650 chassis.

The TN panel is not an option for me as I'm used to the quality color saturation and viewing angles of an IPS. If there was a quality 1080p IPS panel to go with these laptops I would get that instead.

    That panel is freakin beautiful.

That's all there is to it.

Gaming is fine on it, but response times aren't like great.

yeah the one I had my hands on was very nice, I like fell in love with the laptop. It really is nice, considering BGA and all... I think its a contender against those Alienware's IMO.

@woodzstack Hey, I am soon getting this laptop, and as you're the only person I've come across who's said they purchased it, I would love to ask a few questions about the machine!

First how do you find the temperatures on this? I'm getting it with Eurocom's paste, and will most likely be undervolting about -150 according to reports here.

Also, as for undervolting itself, I've been told to use the Obsidian custom CCC and NOT use XTU due to some issues with fan tables or something. Can I ask what your current setup, if at all for undervolting would be?

    Thanks alot! :)

@woodzstack - If you could send me some pics of inside and out that would excellent! Are you also using the 4k Sharp panel?

I assume the 4k Sharp panel doesn't gave the gorilla glass flush finish on the Eurocom Clevo ligh the Dell XPS 15 have.

I don't have any intentions of overclocking this so I may just get it with the i7-7700HQ.

I did not purchase it, though if I was a consumer in this regard I would be interested in it in the right circumstance. I want to give my wife one actually... she's a teacher, this would be perfect.

I am a reseller. So while I had my hands on one, it was because I had a client who purchased one, and I merely triple tested it as part of my service for him, and made sure it performed above OOBE.

I tested it enough to know, you can control the CPU better then most BGA laptops out there, just in the bios itself even, and the temps were not too great at first, a repaste even though the paste job was alright by my supplier, it still helped, because I used Grizzly Kryonaught on it.

here's a quick photo for you (I should have taken one AFTER cleaning up, oh well) :

I do however recommend the 7800HQ over the 7700HQ, because being a BGA CPU, its power is already cut down a significant degree. The extra 1/3rd extra cache means that much more performance in a multithreaded world too.

So instead of the 7700HQ What about then going with the 6820HK or 7820HK?

    6820HK will be $120 more
    7820HK will be $216 more

yeah 6820HQ is just as far long and just as powerful. There are small features you would lose from the Kabylake vs Skylake, but I doubt they will make a difference to most consumers. I.e I think HD streaming on the HD Intel graphics or 4K decoding on the chip itself something like that.

What I like about this laptop, is it has 4 x M.2 NGFF slots. 2 are mini half slots, one for LTe networks and one for the WiFi and then 2 are NVMe M.2 B NGFF 2280 size which can be RAID 0/1/5 etc.. and I think they share controller with the Sata controller for the HDD as well, so you have some decent options to make this a mobile work computer.
I really think it is rugged and high enough quality to be used that way.

I have read about the 4K decoding supported in the new Kaby Lake processors in that case might as well go with the 7700HQ.

I did not see the 7800HQ as an option on the EUROCOM SKY MX5 R2.

Just to confirm, how bad is the 1080p IPS screen on this laptop? Does anyone have any info on the colour quality etc on it?
