Basically, updated my Nvidia drivers, lost G-Sync, rolled back drivers, still cannot get G-Sync and machine crashes when playing games randomly, although it is running decent. Tried that G-SYNC Pendulum Demo from Nvidia and cannot toggle G-sync. Something is wrong, and I cannot figure it out. HID Evolutions tech support has been no help whatsoever with this issue, and even with a clean driver install, doesn't make sense why it's missing. I will say my monitor driver is a generic PnP but I do not have any leads to the drover I may need in order to support the G-Sync.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated; been messing with this on and off all day long... driving me nuts.

Firstly, do not upgrade drivers unless you are certain that a new driver is going to give you a drastic improvement in performance and/or supports a new game that you just bought better than the older driver that you had.

Often, and especially with nVIDIA, new drivers can be problematic and can even fry your GPU like what happened a few months where their drivers fried many laptop GPUs due to abnormal constant high GPU clocks even at idle. It was all over the nVIDIA forums but I forgot what version number it was.

Also, nVIDIA has serious quality control issues with their drivers these days; like, they release a driver and label it WHQL then they release another driver called Hotfix within 48 hours to fix the mess they had in their so called WHQL certified driver. This has been the trend for the last 6 months. Installing a new nVIDIA Driver has become like playing with fire and I would only do it once I see enough reports that it's safe. We usually post Driver findings & fixes in this sub-forum so it would be wise to check what other users have to say about a certain driver before being the guinea pig:
    Gaming (Software and Graphics Cards)

Please bear in mind that when any company ships out a laptop to you, they do rigorous quality checks to make sure everything is working using the official drivers that were supplied on the manufacturer's website so you cannot blame them if you updated a driver and something isn't working as it's intended. Although we are all here to help you should something like this happen but it's always wise to follow the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

What is the driver version you are running now?

    1) Try this:
nVIDIA GeForce Drivers 375.76 Findings & Fixes

    2) if that doesn't work, then use the latest one from Clevo from this link: nVIDIA GeForce Drivers v10.18.13.6926

Also, I suggest you run DDU and have it boot you into safe mode to remove the old driver and all its remnants

Next, when you are installing the new driver, select CUSTOM, then uncheck the 3D Vision Driver Controller Driver and SELECT the CLEAN INSTALL BOX

Next, after the driver is installed, go to nVIDIA Control Panel and change the power management from Optimal to High Performance and change the Vertical Sync option from Controlled by 3D Application to FAST (the FAST option might only be available with the first driver I linked above and not in the older Clevo driver but do check for it), that allows you to have VSYNC playing along nicely with GSYNC but not cap your FPS to your screen refresh rate

let me know how it goes bro

PS: I have a GSYNC Screen (see sig for the screen model) and it also says Generic Monitor so don't worry about that = [IMG]

misolow, we work very had to support our customers in the best way possible, so when I see a post like this I become very concerned that you are not getting the support you deserve.

I checked your support record, and find that you and our support team exchanged 3 support ticket emails with you prior to this post. Your last reply was after business hours, but was replied to first thing this morning. These email exchanges provided you with essentially the same information that any competent technician would do, as well as essentially the same information that Phoenix advised you in his post above.

I never want to be rude in any way to our customers, but given these facts I find it difficult to understand how you can say, in a public forum, that "HID Evolutions tech support has been no help whatsoever with this issue..."

Please be sure you are following the directions on how to do a 'clean' install provided by both our support team, and Phoenix above. Then let our support team know your results.

Also note, if you continue to have trouble with this issue, you can call our support team at 888-666-3418 ext 3, and they can remote into your machine to make sure everything is done correctly.

Great write-up @Phoenix. I was thinking the same thing, check the driver version and go back to a previous version possibly.

Most laptops will usually say that instead of a model number of a screen, at least that I can think of off the top of my head. Did your device manager show it differently before and it changed?

I came across a few threads and posts on the GeForce Drivers forums, by people who are having GSync issues with the last 3-4 driver releases. Basically after the 372.70 release.
NVIDIA has a bunch of test strings into the drivers, that are causing unnecessary issues for a whole lot of people.
    DPC LATENCY Issues .
    HOT Plug ISSUES.
    GSync Not working.
Flickering on High Refresh rate monitors, that were working just fine with older releases.
    Just to list a few.

Yes there is a reason Clevo's flavor of the nVIDIA Drivers are still at 369.26. They don't just blindly post every nVIDIA Driver update until they test it that it works fine with most configurations like GSYNC and that it's safe. ASUS does the same, they are always a few versions behind what the latest nVIDIA drivers are

Personally, I would prefer to stick to the latest Clevo Driver posted above in my point #2 rather than play the Russian Roulette with the latest nVIDIA Drivers

Have you tried to completely getting rid of the nVIDIA driver with DDU then installing the new driver just like @Phoenix suggested?

Also are you sure you are in DISCRETE mode and not in HYBRID mode? You can check if you are setup correctly by going into the BIOS and checking the advanced chipset options and checking if you are set to HYBRID or DISCRETE mode.

    @misolow

Here, I just installed the Clevo/nVIDIA Driver 369.26 myself and notice how it doesn't even contain the 3D Vision Driver since our laptops don't have a 3D Screen. I have found that installing the 3D Vision Driver causes any video that I play to have 2-3 second lag before it actually starts. This is a small example how it's best to use drivers provided by the manufacturer (Clevo in this case)

The Clevo driver also contains the Miracast Virtual Audio Driver which you never find in the stock nVIDIA Drivers. Only ones coming from the OEM.

    Don,

Completely understand, as you were more than helpful when I purchased the machine. Although, I would have to disagree that the information provided was the same; Phoenix was has been much more helpful as Zoltan told me to roll back the driver - as simple as that. I actually did a fresh install with DDU prior to any of these responses still with no luck, and took a break. Now I am trying Phoenix fix, will report back.

Did not pay attention, didn't realize upgrading a GPU driver was such a mission.

    Trying this now, thank you.

    Yes, and yes.

Phoenix recommendations worked, this guy is the man. Went out of his way to PM me, walk me through, upload a driver mirror from Clevo, but after one attempt of the 369.26, I ended up pushing the 375.76 driver and got G-Sync back. Thank you again Phoenix!

My pleasure, glad you got it sorted.

The issue was the Intel iGPU was enabled in the BIOS and as you may all know, GSYNC does not work if the iGPU is enabled unfortunately so it has to be disabled in the BIOS for the GSYNC option to appear in the nVIDIA Control Panel.

took a bit of a detective work but we finally nailed it and now @misolow is a happy camper

Just to be clear on something here, I see that Zoltan and Vivian from HIDevolution's tech support did mention disabling the integrated GPU so no fault on their part there.
