Hi guys, I am planning on purchasing a new laptop by next month. After reading to the forum, I have decided to go with EVOC P870DM3 17.3 from HIDevolution. The review and rating for them seem to be great. Please bear with me if the below questions were already answered, as I could not find them.

Link to laptop in question: http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p870km1-dual-gtx-1080.html

    1. Does the EVOC P870DM3 have desktop grade components?

    2. What is Vapor Chamber GPU & CPU Heat Sink Set and does it reduce temps or keep them low to justify the extra $195?

    3. Does the HIDevolution Delidded - Unlocked, Under Volted and Overclocked 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700K Quad Core Processor, 4.2 GHz perform better and remain cooler?

    4. For a GTX 1080 is the following screen better: 17.3" 3K QHD (2560x1440) AUO 120Hz - 5ms - LED Matte Type Display - w/ nVIDIA® G-SYNC™ Technology or a 4K one? ( I prefer higher fps over 4k but can the gtx 1080 handle 4k?)

    1. Yes

    2. I just know that it's better than traditional heat pipes

    3. Yes, that's the whole point of delidding to apply better thermal paste, CL Ultra is liquid metal. Undervolting also reduces the temp, keeping the same performance

    4. Gtx 1080 is made for 4K and VR ! But if u prefer FPS games, the 120Hz will impress u better.

1- Yes, desktop grade CPU + GPU
2- Vapor Chamber heatsink is a unified heatsink that goes over the GPU + CPU. It gives better cooling and this way, when you want to upgrade to Dual GTX 1080 in SLI, you don't have to buy it and install it yourself, just remove the heatsink and slap in your new 1080 GTX. so it is better cooling + easy future upgrades
3- yes! that is the beauty of ordering from HIDevolution, you get better cooling since the CPU is delidded by them, they are one of very few resellers that offer this as they would have to cover the CPU warranty from their own pocket if it ever fails since Intel won't cover the warranty for a delidded CPU so this is a must as these desktop CPUs will overheat more without delidding. Delidding drops the CPU temps by as much as 20C

    What is CPU Delidding?

to put it in layman's terms, Intel puts some crappy thermal paste between the actual CPU Die and the IHS (integrated heat spreader) or in other words, they put crappy thermal paste between the actual CPU and the metal heat spreader that you as a customer sees when you hold the CPU in your hands

to improve this, you can remove the IHS by cutting through from all corners ensuring that you do not cut through the PCB of the CPU then removing the IHS. Next, you would remove the crappy thermal paste that Intel put and replace that with Liquid Ultra which is a far better thermal pate in terms of heat dissipation..

you surely can do this yourself if you have the time and patience, but that would void your CPU warranty. HIDevolution is one of the very few system builders that can do this for you and not void your CPU warranty since they do it in-house.

By delidding your CPU, you can expect temperature drops by up to 10C

    4. The 3K QHD screen is better IMHO as its a 120hz panel with low 5ms response time so it's better for gaming. The 4K screen might have more sRGB and NTSC accuracy so if you're someone who wants to do graphic design or whatnot, then the 4K might be better, but for the average joe/gamer, I prefer the 3K screen

See the viewing angles of the QHD screen here:

Let me know once you order your laptop by posting a thread in the resellers feedback thread so we can all see the specs you ordered

Since you are an EVOC Team member, you will get my personal assistance once you get your laptop if you need help with understanding all the BIOS options and settings to get the most out of your laptop

Also note the DM3 is almost EOL now, replaced with the KM1. If you can, wait for either the new model, or clearance pricing on the old.

The KM has an updated chipset adding 9/10ths of nothing and an extra M.2 slot... yep, that's the full list ;p

In fact more than 10C is quite possible on load!

P.S. I strongly recommend that people purchase a delidding tool like the Rockit 88, rather an using a razor blade and Nectar / credit card like in that video - we have proper delidding tools and I'm sure that HID do too ;-)

oh I didn't know that you are one of the few resellers also that offers in house delidding without voiding the warranty (for the buyer that is)

Well we don't actively advertise it at the moment - we had to test with quite a large number of CPUs before approving it as an official option; but it will be available on the configuration pages next week :) Lots of other nice options and features comming to XMG too over the next month.......

You inquire as to if the gtx can handle 4k games. See link for frame rates. Loads sloow. Be patient!

Wow, thats a lot of info. Thanks.

I am currently gaming on a Lenovo y50 with gtx 860m so you can see that this is a huge upgrade for me both in terms of performance and monetary value. Therefore, I dont want to regret my purchase and make a informed decision.

Also is the laptop loud, can i game with people beside me without the fan being crazy loud and creating annoyance?

you don't buy a Ferrari and expect it to be quiet! It can get loud when the fans spin up if the CPU heat reaches a certain threshold.

If you want a quiet version, buy the laptop which I just bought from HIDevolution:

Depending on where you are from, you may find a reseller who already has the P870KM in stock. I ordered mine, should arrive on Tuesday.

If you are in the US, HIDEvolution already has it - http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p870km1-dual-gtx-1080.html

If you are in the EU, you will find many resellers who have it in stock already. I bought it from here - https://www.obsidian-pc.com/en/p870km-g-clevo/

If you wear a pair of closed-ear headphones and you have some sort of audio playing, even max fans is inaudible. If you're using open air headsets or playing from your laptop speakers it may be a different story. The overclock fan profile (standard with Prema mod from places like HID) will be fine in terms of cooling for many scenarios, especially with the delid and service that places like HID and Obsidian-PC provide (though, do note, Obsidian-PC is not able to be a Prema partner yet, sadly).

Hopefully, the Z270 chipset will do better with DDR4-3000+ memory speeds. 7700K improved that situation just a little bit, but it would be nice to see the next revision of the P870 handle those RAM clock speeds 100% stable all of the time, without having to put up with lots of rigmarole and silly gyrations to try to get it stable.

Indeed, 7700K is a great deal better than the 6700K when it comes to DDR4 speeds... IMC strength also seems to be better!
