Guys, I need your help on this one.
I am going to buy a Sager this summer for school starting in the fall.
I'm torn between the 860 and the 5793. Here's my dilemma.
I want something that will last at least 3 years [I will take care of it] and still be 'viable' in terms of gaming. In other words, I'd like to be able to run any game out there three years from now on at least medium settings at a decent resolution.
I will begin an MBA program in the fall and by three years from now, I'll be making enough that I can buy whatever laptop I want.
Obviously the 15in screen will be better for class work simply because of the smaller footprint and less weight.
However, I don't mind going up to the 5793 if the 15in probably won't be viable in 3 years as a decent gaming laptop.
Clearly no one can predict the future but I do have faith in all of your educated guesses... so help me out! What do you guys think?

Any thoughts? Again, I know it will only be an educated guess... that's fine with me. Just give me your thoughts.
Is it likely a 860TU be able to run the newest games 3 years from now on medium settings at a somewhat decent resolution? -
860tu will be there with resolutions lower than WUXGA beleive me

3 years, Medium Settings
Only one that can do this is Clevo D901C with some intel Quad and 8800M GTX SLI

Go small, expecially for school. The 5793 won't offer any real advantages in terms of gaming. Honestly, I tought my gaming rig (5760) would last 3 years, but, altough it stll can play most current game, these machines lifespan IMO is about 18 months.
The small footprint/AND weight, should be considered in your decision. A 17 inchers is big for travel. The 860 should offer all the power and hi res in a quite small package. If they manage heat, it's pushing me to get rid of my 5760...
And honestly, although I love my 5760, the thought of getting a 14" ultra-portable and a gaming desktop is quite tempting... It's like there is a time when gaming is not that important anymore and you regret having invested that much money lol. Market value on laptops also tend to fall quite quickly. 18 months later I'm stuck with it and i'm not even sure I could get ½ the price I paid for it... A good C2D laptop well suited for work/school will keep its value longer IMO. -

Take a look at what's happening to the desktop GPU scene atm. 9800GTXs are looking a bit silly atm with not much performance over an 8800 GTX/Ultra. Will the 9800M be much better than the 8800M? Will the 860 support it.......wait and see.........
I have to say that after spending a few monthe with a 571 17" I wouldn't like using a 15" laptop but for mobility it's the way to go.
GanGstaOne's about right - 901C with SLI is the best futureproof at present but that's a desktop replacement. The 571 will run pretty much any current game absolutely fine (apart from the freak that is Crysis) but with 9800Ms possibly around the corner wait and see - you have until the summer after all -
Thanks guys for the input.
In your opinions, will the 860TU be able to play most games 3 years from now with decent fps? -
9800M series is not gonna be much faster than 8800M series.
@southpaw3401, we can't predict the future but imagine you are having an ATI X800 now which is 3 years old, probably would run BF2142 at low setting. -
yep for the mobile cards maybe but Geforce 9900 GTX will have 180.24 GB/s GDDR4
and it will be here soon than you think

I think that the 9800M GTX will be the same like 8800M GTX because the hardwired ID on 9800M GTX is 0608 like 8800M GTX
RivaTuner Info 8800M GTX
Hardwired ID: 0608 (ROM strapped to 060C) -
9900m? first time I heard of it

no i did not write 9900"M"
