I have a question. Since this is my first laptop, i don't have much experience with touchpad. I'm using a 5760 btw for those who don't know.

i've noticed that when I use the scrolling features of the touchpad (up and down on the right side of the touchpad, or the up/down scroll button below the touchpad), the mouse cursor moves onto the scrollbar. so I have to keep moving the mouse cursor back to the center of the screen after each time i scroll. a real scroll wheel on a mouse does not do this, so i'm wondering if there is something I can do to make the touchpad scrolling emulate a scroll wheel?

    thanks

okay, actually its apparently a widespread problem (and not just elantech touchpads have it) and it only occurs using firefox.

i've tried all kinds of drivers, and the synaptic ones actually solve the scrolling issue, but they are very laggy and I cant seem to enable mouse acceleration properly with those. i tried the latest elantech drivers I could find, and those still have the scrolling problem in firefox, as do an older version than came with the 5760. the windows default drivers do the same thing as the symantic ones. both the synaptic and windows ones, however, will not enable the scrolling middle button below the touchpad.

has anyone else tried to fix this issue? any success?

I think it just varies on the touchpad you have. I don't recall that my Sager's Elantech pad does it, nor does this Alienware. However, the Compal I recently tested (July) did.

Yeah this is a firefox thing... related to the drivers. I've not seen a definitive way to fix it.
One of my friends had the same problem on her HP notebook.

It became less of a problem after I started using my new G5 mouse instead of the trackpad. ;)
