    Hi Guys,

I hope you can help me with enabling g-sync on my notebook using an external montior

Basically i just bought Acer monitor which supports this feature. I connected this screen via displayport cable to my notebook (Clevo P170SM-A) and works fine at 144hz, but there is no setting in nvidia's control panel for enabling g-sync. It should be there, but it is not. :(

Do you know if that's supported or not on my set up?
...or should i make my GTX970M as the main display card somehow?

    Clevo P170SM-A notebook
    GTX970M videocard
    ACER XB27OH PREDATOR monitor

    Thank you so much!
    Zoltan

Your notebook routes external displays through the iGPU and thus will never support Gsync

And isn't it possible to switch to the Nvidia card somehow?
I had a look in the BIOS, but there isn't much setting there... :(

Your laptop doesn't have g sync. G sync is only for cards 10x0 series and above 1050ti so far. If you want g sync you'll need a P650 with at least a 1060

I know my notebook doesn't have G-sync, but i would like to use it with an external screen which has G-sync. (ACER XB27OH monitor)
As far as i know GTX970M supports this technology. Was written on Nvidia's website.

I think the issue is that i can not switch to the Nvidia card in BIOS.

Don't you know if there is a BIOS update which allows me do to that?

All display outputs are wired through the IGP. This is a physical trace layout thing and cannot be bypassed.

Well... this is not a good news... i should check this before buying a G-Sync screen.
    Anyway, thanks for your reply.

    One more thing...
I had a look online and found this thread in MSI forums. See the link below.
The guy had similar issues with G-Sync on an external monitor (same monitor actually) plus a MSI GT72 laptop.

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=260903.0

I know, the MSI is not Clevo yet the specifications don't tell anything about G-sync support, BUT! this guy could make it work when replaced the displayport cable. That's all he did.

I have two displayports on my Clevo. One mini and one normal.
Isn't it possible that one of them is connected directly to the Nvidia card and not the Intel HD?

I just ordered some descent quality cables and will check out both.

    No, it is not possible.
