Well folks - based on what we've seen from a couple people that have the 5796's already I think it's safe to say that a similarly spec'd m860tu with:

    P9500
    9800gt
    2gb ram

    Will score roughly 9.5k 3dmark06.

So, based on the fact that Sager has said there would be no problems with cooling in this laptop I assume thermals are reasonable to low. If this is the case then there is overclocking potential on this platform.

Question is - by how much can we speculate overclocking potential of the GPU to be? My guess is that with a healthy tune/tweaks we should be able to get 12k in 3dmark06.

This of course is just speculation - any more guesses are certainly appreciated.

But honestly - maybe not just with gpu overclock but also cpu overclock too - just guessing here -

Gonna be a long time before you can overclock with setfsb and that won't let you overclock the gpu much more since it makes the entire system run faster including the gpu. At best you might get into the low 10k area. Takes a quad core with heavy overclocks or a sli 9800m gt to get you 12k.

don't be greedy, your 9800M GT is already at least 2-3 times faster than majority people's.

man your avatar just looks scary :p

Alright I ask about overclocking potential and you say don't be greedy? Come on dude you even overclock your GPU using rivatuner i'm sure of it. You're not gonna sit there and tell me you've never tried to max out your system. You have an 8800gtx. Why OC? Because we can. Man it's like amateur night at the comedy club.

People with the extreme core and the 8800mgt with OC'ed 8800 and 3.2ghz barely hit 11k. With a locked core such as the P9500 if you use set fsb you wont be able to oc either by much its one or the other.

Hey minkang - did you get your 5796 yet? If so how's that T9600 running? I'm thinking about upgrading my p9500 to the t9600 myself

Awesome man. Maybe we can get some actual benchies and gameplay vids from you. Those who are performing hardcore tests on their 5796's when they get them are few and far between.

    My guess, 9,150 to 9,300 3D'06 Marks.
Nah, here's stock bone stock SLi 8800 GTX's in an Odachi with a lowly Q6700 at 13,000 plus, I can get that to 14,000 like nothin' at all.

Is it a smart move to overclock your gpu or cpu on a notebook? ive read from a couple of sites that its a no no. rivatuner would be a good one to use if i did want to overclock though right?

GPU OC is better if your prefer gaming more. CPU OC is better if your into 3d rendering, CUDA, etc.. VBIOS flashing is more effective then rivatuner.

    For GPUs:
It is not something I would recommend for the average person. The reason I say that is I have a lot of experience with warrantying things with nVida, and the chassis distributors. To make a long story short, if a company, no matter how large, can get out of warrantying something, especially a high dollar item like a GPU... they will take it. So you defiantly don't want to give them any excuses.

From their perspective they aren't seeing it as getting out of a warranty, but instead, "Hey, you modified this to do more than what WE sold it to you as capable of doing." I can understand that. What I am getting at is that if you overclock your GPU and they find out about it... you can kiss that warranty goodbye. A 9800GT is about a $400 part, and that's if your vendor is going to be generous with you and help you out. If they want to make a dime past shipping it, it is going to be more. If you're going to do it, like I have said before, use software overclocking that won't leave the fingerprints of O.C.'ing on the BIOS / hardware of the card.

    For CPU's:
Any Intel CPU (or AMD) CPU worth its salt is going to go15% overclock without any problems whatsoever. What you may run into though is heat issues. Make sure that you have adequate cooling if you are going to push anything farther than the manufacturer says it can go. It would be almost impossible to tell if a CPU had been run overclocked unless it is at some extrememly ridiculous level.

For World in Conflict, at 1440x900 resolution on High, I had an average of 23 fps, max of 44 and min of 9.

Weren't people over at AW forum getting 10k on their m15x with 8800GTX and X9000? I would expect something similar, since the M860TU's using Montevina.

Alienware also uses their own drivers which might be tweaked to make it run better than stock maybe?
