I always like to connect with my dorm's LAN, but for some reason it network says "LAN cable unplugged" when it is plugged in and was just working on Vista. Any ideas?

    have you tried

    a) repairing the connection
    b) unplugging and replugging the cable
    c) rebooting the computer

Narrow down the possibilities. Make sure it isn't hardware by plugging it into a working LAN. Then start with the software troubleshoots. For example, some wired LANs have MAC filtering, so make sure with the IT folks that you don't need to register first.

It worked just fine a few minutes before, then it just said "a cable is unplugged." Like I said, everything works fine in Vista. Is there a newer driver out there, or should I downgrade back to the factory driver (I updated to one that Windows Update found)?

This happened to me as well. What it seems to be is that one of the graphics card's wire for the cooling fan is touching the LAN circuit, thereby disrupting the circuit. Open up your machine, and fasten the cable far away from the LAN circuitry. That should do the trick. It did for me.
