Hello Everyone,
I recently inherited a pair of Eurocom 3420 laptops:
- 500 MHz Celeron, 64 MB RAM, 10 GB HD
- 700 MHz PIII, 128 MB RAM, 30 GB HD
Although the first one was supposed to be a parts spare for the second one, having reinstalled W2000 SP4 on both, I see that both run very well. The first one is significantly slower the second one. Both have seen better days as each seems to have been dropped at least once. The second one does appear to have a damaged PCMCIA port as I can't get a wireless network card to seat properly.
I thought I might as upgrade these machines while parts are still available. The main use for them would be internet browsing and using software requiring the serial port. I think 64 MB is marginal for W2000 but, having done a quick search, RAM still seems to mostly inexpensive. It looks like 512 MB is the maximum amount of RAM allowable but 256 MB sticks are much more than double the cost of 128 MB.
Some questions:
- Would I notice a huge improvement in performance with 512 MB RAM vs 256 MB?
- Where is a good place to buy RAM for these notebooks?
- Where is the best place to buy a 19V/60W charger?
- Would I notice a major improvement in browsing speed with a wireless N USB adapter vs a wireless G USB adapter?
- Is there any limitation to a hard drive upgrade?
- Where can I find CD-ROM mounting frame & end-socket for a Clevo/Eurocom 3420?
