My 7970m in my p170em is dying, so I ordered a 980m kit from Eurocom with expedited shipping. Received the kit today and this is what I got:

And this is what their website shows comes with the kit:

Looks like the heatsink and x bracket are missing, and possibly a bag of screws. Picture on their website seems to show multiple bags of screws, but my kit only came with one.

Is there any possibility that I could use my 7970m heatsink and x bracket? I think I've read of people getting the heatsink to work, but the x bracket and some screws might be specific to the 980m.

I'm not happy. I paid more for Eurocom's kit over Mythlogic because Mythlogic was out of stock and I need to replace my video card immediately. And I paid for faster shipping. I've emailed Eurocom, hope to hear back from them soon.

Thanks Prema. I've been in contact with them. Thankfully they've been quick about responding to me, and it looks like they are going to send me a new heatsink. The x bracket was not missing. It was already on the underside of the video card, I just never looked at the bottom, assuming that it would be separate as pictured in the kit photo.

Do you know if the heatsink for the 7970m should be compatible with 980m?

Btw, thank you for making this all possible. Really excited to have much better graphics in my p170em thanks to your modding.

If you move the pads it can work, just be careful with placement.

Eurocom is sending me a replacement heatsink, although I did have to pay for shipping. The incomplete kit happened because of this. Eurocom has two kits listed. The one I first saw here for $860:
    http://www.eurocom.com/ec/vgas(1)ec

And another here, found via the upgrade link from their drop down menu, also listed for $860:
    http://www.eurocom.com/ec/upgrade(1,276,0)ec

I ended up ordering from the second link thinking this was the same item as the first link, but it turns out the 980m in the second link doesn't include the heatsink, even though Eurocom is charging the same price. To me, this is somewhat deceptive as the second link doesn't make mention of the fact that they sell a kit that includes the heatsink for the same price. Imagine if you only knew about ordering a 980m via the second link. You might end up wasting $127 if you add the heatsink option. So now, because of their convoluted website, I ended up having to spend an extra $25 for shipping. I pointed out the issue to a sales rep named Mark, and his response was basically apathetic, that it was not their fault, but they offered me the heatsink for free so long as I pay for shipping.

Although I'm not fully happy with the experience, I do have to say thank you to Braden, the guy who does their install videos. He answered the phone when I called the customer service line and guided me to installing the 980m with the 7970m heatsink, carefully explaining how to use different size thermal pads for proper contact and cooling, and he even emailed me photos for how they should be applied, and links for applying the thermal paste. Now I'm able to use my 980m until the real heatsink arrives. Which, by the way, it's amazing how much faster the 980m is. I'm playing GTA5 on much higher settings with a great frame rate.

When I upgraded my p151em to gtx970m. I ended up using the the heatsink from the hd8970m. As the one that came with the gpu ran way to hot.

I certainly hope this doesn't happen. Maybe it had something to do with the pad placement or paste spread. I've been keeping track of temps so I'll keep an eye out.

    Btw, I've got a VR4 for your Z28 :D

There may have been an issue with the heatsink too, sometimes one of the heatpipes can be damaged in transit.
