    I am not surprised.

There are LGA775 Xeon processors that work in Intel 965 chipsets.

This is not the first time.... take a look at my sig. ;)

The Clevo D900K can also house server-class Opterons (using Socket 939)

here is a list of Xeons... as you can see their power specifications are like the 65nm and 45nm Core 2 Quad's.

They are LGA775 and as long as the BIOS is fully recognizing them, there is no reason why they would not work in the D901C.

I actually built mine. from barebones.

It costed me around $2800 USD after I made the initial build.

Then I paid some more (under $100) for a second HDD (for RAID) and about $170 for an AMD Opteron 180.

So around $3k in total. :)

Still running strong after 2 years. :)

it does, the auto URL link of NBR drops symbols (the last parenthesis)

    here is fixed link:

I think it would cool if I decide to build a D901C and use a Xeon quad-core.

Then I would have two Clevo notebooks using server-class CPUs. :D

And I would have the world's first dual core notebook (D900K) and the world's first quad-core notebook (D901C).... that would be sweet!!!! :)

    Clevo FTW!

^^^ imo not much, the 3110 for example is the exact same thing as the e8400.. no difference. some believe they are binned better or require less volts for oc'ing but most have shown there is no difference

I wanted a dual core notebook, and the D900K was the only one during Q1 2006.

It was not practical for me to make a gaming desktop because I am rarely home.

I wanted a system that can game very well and be used for fast processing/encoding/converting... and the dual HDD's was a nice touch for storage/redudancy.

yeah, i just wanted to throw this thread out there. Noticed there wasnt a lot of new news so this gives us maybe half a day of slight enjoyment? Anyways this is mostly for server usage I believe, atleast thats what xeons were built for and what engadget suggests as well.

Yup, everyday in my Kensington Contour Backpack. :)

You get used to it when bringing it to school and work. ;)

It always turns heads for sure... especially since I left it un-branded.

I like having something that people cannot identify... "It aint a Dell" :)

    i like this comment

    <<

This is NOT a laptop... Not even Eurocom calls (their other model) a "laptop", look at their site, they call it "mobile workstation".... No one ever said this was intended to be on the top of your lap

People, this is NOT to be used on the go... This is meant to be just easily taken away

There are several uses to it... For instance, there are public events where you need serious computer power to do real-time audio and video, usually you have to carry around a bunch of full-sized computers with another bunch of monitors and it takes you serious time to set it all up, sometimes delaying the event because of this.... With this ""server laptop"", the problem is gone. You don't even need a truck...

Another use, let's suppose you have a home "laboratory", one day, your contacts tell you the police is on it's way to your place and you have fifteen minutes to run away...

With a full-sized server, all your data would be doomed. With this, just disconnect and go....

(don't ask what was that lab of :p)

so this thing.. is... DDR3 ram then... meaning the D901c will probably be upgradeable to 8gigs in the forseeable future... with a new mobo of course... again...

    correction.

There are DDR2 4GB sticks out there.

So a notebook 4GB stick is possible.... just extremely expensive... like the desktop 4GB DDR2 sticks.

So a new motherboard upgrade is not needed.

expensive or not, companies like eurocom allow you to usually put whatever you can in them, no matter the cost. I mean, c'mon, we got people here buyin laptops for 4k, especially in the sager thread. Every1 here wants top of the line rite as it comes out!. SO i dont see why no resellers offer 8gb Ram then.

they are just foreseeing the options for 500GB drives.... thats all.

500GB 2.5" drives will be showing up by summer for notebooks... nothing surprising.

    What's not for gaming RAMBO29?
A Xeon CPU is (might be true rumors here) put through more thorough testing than a normal one, therefore making it (in theory) better for server use. Practically Xeons were sometimes much better overclockers than normal Core 2 Duo CPUs and if I remember correctly had a lower voltage. It's all about which one has the newer revision right now (I remember the G revision was great for overclocking).
