Well, after only a year and a half, my Eurocom D901C (which is the same as a Sager NP9262) has started showing signs of fatigue. Everyday, the LCD loses it's backlight for, sometimes a few minutes, sometimes hours. After a few searches on the web, i decided to change the LCD's inverter as it appears to be the main cause of a dimmed out screen. As my luck would have it... it didn't solve the problem. Now either Eurocom sold me a bad inverter or it's actually the bulb inside the LCD that's slowing dying.
Since i can't buy the bulb itself, i need to replace the LCD, or figure out a way to properly test the inverter... So here's my problem: On the back of my LCD, it says i have a LP171WU1 (TL)(B2), Everest says i have a LP171WU1 (TL)(B1) and the service manual says it's a LP171WU1 (A4)(K4)...
My question is, how compatible are all the LCD panels? And which is best?
Thanks,
Sandman68

Welcome to the NBR forums.
the LP171WU1 is the typical WUXGA panels you will find in most high-end 17.1" notebooks.
If you want to know the best of the LP171WU1 types, zfactor would be the guy to ask since he has had the chance to play around with all of those panels.

Sandman...
Give me a call at Eurocom and we will see what we can do for you. The Invertor we shipped to you would have been tested before shipping so it's unlikly that would be the issue.
Thanks -
Shouldn't it be easy to replace just the bulb on the LCD?
Just make sure you buy one with the wires already attached to the bulb. (its a pain to solder)
Why won't they sell you the bulb? I know a guy who can. -
Well, Bill F, I haven't found any on the internet and, it looked like a pain to replace when i took the LCD off to get the model number on the back.
John, thanks for your help today, and I will get in contact with you again if no better option arises... And to anyone out there looking for a kick*** laptop, Eurocom is the place to get it from... Their service is absolutely A1.
Gophn, thanks for the advice... How do I go about asking directly a user a question? I saw a couple of posts of his where he talks about replacing his TL-B2 of a TL-A2 and I'd love to know more about that.
Also, how reliable are the LCD screens available from internet resellers? Are they really brand new? Why are they selling so cheap? If anyone knows.....
Thanks again for the help! -
I suspect you're asking about Soviet Sunrise, as I think he was the one that did a bunch of screen changeouts. However, the usual method for privately contacting a member through the forums (PM, Private Messaging) won't be available for you until you reach about 20 posts (might be 25, but I think it's 20).

Since it doesn't seem to be against the rules (I just read them) here is a link to the guy's site that can sell you a backlight.
http://agilentpixel.com/product.php?id_product=72 (the LP171WU1)
You can contact him and probably for about $30-$40 bucks (shipping included) he can send you a new bulb with cable soldered on already.
He can also sell you a LED backlit version of that LCD if you hate CCFLs, it should be drop in compatible. (not sure though, you'll have to ask) Edit: You may need a new driver for that actually.
Here is one I bought from him. (for use in my home made laptop)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/BillFleming/CustomLaptop/IMAG0540-1.jpg (it had no dead pixels or anything)
I haven't taken the backlight out of this model lcd before but it should be pretty straight forward, you should only have to take the bottom part off in that picture (above the inverter).
I'm thinking for my next LCD purchase for a homemade laptop style project I'll get an LED backlight version so I don't have to replace the worn out bulbs every 5-10 years as they shouldn't wear out. -
Since this is a little bit of an urgent matter and i cant really wait to reach 20 posts, any of you would care to point either Soviet Sunrise or zfactor to this post for help?
Thanks -
if you post here, I can forward the post to Soviet Sunrise and/or zfactor for you.

Please do Gophn, I'd be much appreciated!

all lp171wu1 and lp171wu3 both are wuxga panels will work. the BEST one is a tl a2 model. far better than the rest by a long shot.
the only difference will be in the brackets on the tl a2 you just remove the upper and lower brackets which is very easy to do with either a small flathead or a dremel tool. the correct panel for you is a a4 series but most of those tend to be very grainy and some very dim. if you can find a tl a2 and remove the brackets you will LOVE that panel i swear
the bulb is NOT at all a easy thing to change unless you know how. and imo i doubt you got 2 bad inverters i see more bulbs bad then inverters but dont rule out other things like the lcd cable and even the gpu
ebay should have these for around 130$ or so -

Yes. What zfactor said. You won't see any better 17 inch CCFL panel other than the TLA2. It's so beautiful it puts most 17 inch WLED's to shame. All TLA2's come with OEM brackets that need to be removed to be able fit onto your D901C. The brackets are held down by weak crimp points that you need to dremel off slowly so that you don't heat up the panel casing. You can use your old inverter if the power cable doesn't work with the inverter that comes with the TLA2.
This is the panel that I bought. http://cgi.ebay.com/A-NEW-LP171WU1-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5d26bd0f4f
The seller is legit and backs up the screen with a six month no dead pixel warranty. The panel comes in a coffin of bubble wrapping so it's pretty much babied during transit. You can do a dry test of the screen before you mount it to see if it works or if there are any dead pixels.
Oh, and you need atleast five posts to be able to send and receive PM's. I don't know where the hell Judicator got 20 posts from. -
Did you try to contact the eurocom guy, who posted here?

Thanks everyone for your help. Just ordered a new TL A2... Can't wait to see the difference.
I did contact John at Eurocom which offered me a new LCD for about $600, or one with at least 1 dead pixel for about $250. Nice of them to try and help me but, not worth the money with everything available on the internet at a much cheaper price...
Again, thank you all for your help! -
