Thanks. I forgot exact price, but it was a bit under my budget of $2000 total after tax and shipping.

John ([email protected]) allowed me to buy with the USD configuration (then convert to CAN dollars), which was a lot cheaper. I recommend asking them for this option or for price matching opportunities cause they seemed pretty reasonable with these.

On top of that I got a 5% student discount with a picture of my student id. Since I'm out of province, tax was GST only (5%) so they pretty much cancelled each other out. Shipping I think was around 50 dollars.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I bought it without an OS since I can get Vista as a grad student at my school

Last night, my burnt version of Vista x64 buisness from school, had a corrupt file on the first install, so i went and bought a sleeve + bag. Came back and finished install.

x64 version from school does not have SP1, i need to dl updates/fixes. Laptop is running extremely slow because of drivers/sp1 i believe. it is taking 20 seconds to open small applets like HWMonitor. When i get home from school today i am going to work on it, hopefully getting it up and running.

First thoughts : LOVE the matte 1920X1200 screen, however have a stuck/dead pixel in top left area. Very small, im not sure if it is stuck or dead yet, it does not appear black, rather baige/grey. Trying stuck pixel fixing software. Will update when i get home. So far, it appears to be good.

Also, last night i ran HWMonitor, after 3 hrs of installs/updates, cpu's were 48-50ish, gpu was 52-55ish and hard drive was 61 max. Hard drive is noticably hot, however i believe the heat will not cause any damage to laptop casing, it is "warm to the touch" also, it does not bug me, i dont find it a big deal @ 61. Also need to install vista fixes before i can confirm stuff. The laptop is build really really sturdily in my opinion. Also, keyboard is quiet and so far the fan is WAY WAY quieter than my desktop, im shocked at how quiet my room is now....(i have 2 quad core ddr2 1066 desktops with 8800gt and 4870, they are way way way louder, one uses the antec nine case and the other uses the antec breeze case.)

Towards the end of the night last night i used my new Zalman NC2000 cooler, droped cores down to 37-38 and gpu 42ish and hd to 45ish. Zalman NC2000 works well with this laptop in case anyone wanted to know.

As a final note, sorry for the bad grammer, banging this out while in class, so trying to hurry. i will update more tonight/tommorow.

by the way, my HD is 320 gig toshiba 5400.

So a little update, downloading SP1 as we speak. OS having tons of problems running atm, i think the 800 mb sp1 should fix this :D.

I ran a pixel reviving software for 2 hours today, the stuck/dead? pixel in the top left area is noticebly fainter now, perhaps it is stuck? I will let the software run for another few hours/overnight tonight. Hopefully this solves the problem.

one more little update, idl temps:
its 20.5 ambient in my room, a little on the cold side, i usually like it 22-23

    core 0 - 39
    core 1- 37-39
    HDD - 50

The hard drive seems better...I don't remember the SP1 was 800MB, though it was like 100MB by windows update and 300MB on Microsoft Download.

It was 780~ Mb, it would not install, i could not get the windows live update software to install. OS was running insanely slow. I give up im going to put a copy of XP Pro 32 on, since i got 2 extra keys anywayz ><. my 64 bit dream is crushed ... for now...

p.s i also tried a vista x64 update to fix the updater lol. still no luck :(

just got mine a few days ago from eurocom. here's some info:

fan noise: fine. Silent mode is very very very quiet. normal idle is audible for sure, but definitely bearable (white noise).

temps: normal idle for 7 hrs: CPU 50C, GPU 49C, HDD 57C

Load temps: not sure for max gpu, cpu, but maxed HDD is 67C due to 25C room temp (recorded during formatting, thus is the max temp possible)

right of touchpad does get hot. But I'm not bothered by it.

No dead pixels, no fan in power supply.

No, there's not a fan in all the power supply. At least, recent ones don't.
