it says that the VGA is upgrabeable. does that mean we can buy it with the 8800GTX, and a year later upgrade to 9800GTX?!?![]()
anyway, 1 question to people who know a thing or 2 about Clevo - the battery. it sais 1.5 hours. is that under full load, or with the GPU downclocked, screen dimmed, and all the other fansy stuff turned off?
-
don't hold yer breath.
upgradeable could mean with a mobo upgrade etc.
like most of their upgrade if not every single one with the exception of 8700's needed mobo upgrades.
feel free to go back 2-3 years in the fourm.
all the way back nearly every upgrade *from the d900 series anyway. -
will probably need a mobo swap for anything above 9800.
-
then the "Modular GPU" is really a possibility? sending it in only for a VGA upgrade?
never heard of that b4 :X -
it just means the gpu can be removed and put back in is all

nice find though. I hope this notebook holds up. that battery life sounds pretty crappy if you ask me.

dont forget guys a mobo upgrade aint that bad a thing to have to do, heck half the time we upgrade our desktops the mobo has to be done too, as the specs dont seem to last 5 minutes
With that motherboard however being a montevino (sic?) platform, its probably got the latest MXM spec, and considering all the manufacturers are trying to get cards to run cooler than previous generations with fancy manufacturing processes (reducing the Nm) it would probably go straight in.
of course mxm upgrade will keep a close eye on thngs. -
The battery life stated there is discouraging.. :\
-
Very discouraging.

i dont think you'll need a mobo upgrade for the 9800MGTX.
if u look at the specs sheet:
under video and graphics it lists compatible cards:
PCIe 16x; nVidia 8700GT; Quadro FX1600; 8800GTX; 9xxxGTX
as for battery life. what do you expect for a high end machine? -
In fact, based on the prior experience with upgrading to the 8800M on the 579x series and the 926x series, there is every reason to believe that there will have to be a significant upgrade to some other component (e.g., motherboard) in order to accomodate at least the high-end 9-series card.
Thus, this is really a case of dejavu, all over again. -

um but not a lot. I was hoping for battery life of say 2:30 with normal settings. Maybe I set my hopes too high. ah well it still looks good and not flashy *cough*
-
1.5 hours working on 8800GTX? its gr8!
-
and wondering of such things and hoping for a day u can upgrade your vga without any need to update parts
as for the 9800MGTX itself, im hoping they boost the SP from 96 - 112 or more, not just a higher clocked 8800GTX -
not really.
Look at this:

They say the 5793 gets 1.5 hrs, it gets 3 acutally. So dont beleive that fully... -

I must admit my M570RU-U was on for 2 hours yesterday out on a tech support call, and there was still battery left
admittedly I was only configuring routers not gaming -
The M860TU should get a higher battery life than the M57xRU-U, due to smaller screen (and theoretically smaller power consumption) and lower TDP CPUs.
-
Is battery longevity really an issue with a gaming laptop? I guess now that its 15" it has to be Uber-portable. Hell my laptop is never 3 feet from an outlet, though i dont take my notebook with me on my hiking trips.lol
-
" Video Architecture/Chipset PCIe 16x; nVidia 8700GT; Quadro FX1600; 8800GTX; 9xxxGTX "
Don`t you guys know that the 9th series is just a refresh of the 8th series? that`s why it`s upgradeable. -

yes well, I plan on doing lots of hiking trips... no but in class there aren't too many outlets which is wierd cause you go into the hall and there are billions.
-
sure battery life is important. im not going to game on the roud, but i am going to read a worksheet, write something on Word, see a movie....
i got to take two busses a week, from the uni to home and back, each takes 2 hours. i want to make the time productive as i do with my current notebook.
also, there is the need to surf the net while enjoying a very boring lecture about the nuclear terror balance in the cold war.... (and no, im not going to be the dick that plugs his notebook to the wall of the class, and streaches it cord along the steps of the lecture room so that everyone is free to trip and fall, and take the lapi with him!)
if u never stray more than 3 feet from a plug, why not buy a desktop? :X -
1) A desktop takes up a lot of space (dedicated space); with a notebook, when I'm done, I fold it up, roll up the power cord, and stash the whole thing in a drawer.
2) A desktop has cables hanging this way and that; with a notebook, there's only one mandatory cable - the power cord - and even that's not visible when it's stashed away. (Wife hates "unsightly" cables)
3) I have a 3 y.o. daughter whom I love dearly, and whose curiosity I actively encourage, but whom I cannot police 24/7 (esp. when I'm at work). With a desktop, I would always be worried about curious little fingers getting into drives, vents, etc (don't laugh, I once filled the hubcaps of my Dad's car with gravel 'cause it was "neat" to put gravel in and have it "disappear." Boy did I get a tanning for that one!). The only way to avoid that is to stash the desktop away, which seriously cuts down on its functionality; however, that's precisely where a notebook shows its strengths, once I'm done with it, it stashes away easily - no muss, no fuss, no PBJ sandwiches (or gravel
) in the CD/DVD.

So, what sort of performance gain will DDR3 have in applications, games etc, over DDR2 memory?. Not too knowledgeable on this front.
-
Those look good. But at 15.4 notebook with a fast chip and an a 8800 GPU will it be loud as the Concorde???
I'm waiting till around June July before i pull the trigger on any notebook.
Thanks god for my job's R-40. I've become addicted to surfing and watching TV at the same time. -
GDDR3 is faster than DDR2.
like bout 2-5 fps?
