Hi alI just have a general question regarding these two laptops from Eurocom.

Eurocom offers both these clevo chassis, however under the names of Sky mx5 r2 and Sky m5 r2.

My question is, they have identical specs, except the more expensive one(Sky mx5 r2 / p650rs-G) comes with the gtx 1070 and an additional 8 GB of RAM for a total of 16 GB, whereas the cheaper one (Sky m5 r2 / p650rp6) comes with gtx 1060 and only 8 GB of RAM. My question is, I believe this is a great deal for the Canadian version, that is getting the gtx 1070 and extra RAM worth $130?

Obviously that's subjective to me whether I think I can afford it, but value wise, what are your opinions on that increase?

I've heard and seen some various opinions of temps that 1070 can go up there, but if I'm paying premium price and for what seems to be not so much, the $130 worth to "future-proof" my laptop?

Hopefully any insight on various opinions on whether or not it's worth it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks! :)

I think $130 is very reasonable upgrade price to make your next laptop future proof and last for longer. This is BGA onboard GPU and CPU laptop so getting higher spec today gives your laptop more life.

It depends on your use-case. If you like to play triple-A games at Ultra settings at 1080p (or higher if there is a higher-res option for the RS), then a 1070 will get you a lot farther for a little longer.

The 1060 is more a solid High settings 1080p card. Some triple-A games you'll be able to max out, and others you'll have to sacrifice a graphical slider here or there.

But, for example, if all you do is play DOTA and LoL, or Overwatch and CS:GO (aka esports titles) then either card is more than adequate..

At that point, other differences between the units may be more important for you (such as weight/thickness/refresh rate).

As for 'future proofing', the 1070 will obviously last longer being significantly more powerful, so if that's your sole category on which you're basing this decision, then it's not really a question of which to pick.

Personally I think the price difference is worth it if you're happy with the thicker chassis. Also, I may be mistaken, but I believe the RS comes with a high refresh rate panel option which I'd find, in your position, very intriguing.

Yes that is a good price for an upgrade to GTX 1070! Get it... Your laptop will basically play games for another a year more on higher settings due to GTX 1070!
