I was just on the phone with them, and they say they've already sold the 6970 in laptops. Additionally, they said the Sandy Bridge recall doesn't affect certain laptops that don't use the affected ports. Thought most people would be curious about the former, and wondering if any experts can comment on the latter.

Clevo themselves confirmed that the 8130, 8150, and the 8170 are affected because they all use the faulty SATA 2 controler to some extent. The 8130 and the 8150 has the ODD on it, the 8170 has either a second HDD or the ODD on it. All current clevo sandy bridge laptops are affected no matter what eurocom says.

As for the 6970 being sold, I highly doubt that holds any water.

Could be a reference to a pre-order, since according to Eurocom they won't be shipping the P150HM till April.

    Sold≠Shipped

But they do list the 6970 as available in older models; which aren't affected by the Sandy Bridge recall, so that's possible.

Also, it's quite possible that some companies are selling the 6970M equipped systems. The only problem is, according to AMD the 6970M's still come as engineering samples and I doubt it's perfectly legal to sell pre-production units. Leaves a lot of questions...

The guy told me they've already shipped the P150HM with the 6970 in it, as well as the Sandy Bridge.

    Here ya go Dave.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...evo-sager-notebook-recall-news-questions.html

"As some of you may have heard, Intel has recently announced a halt to shipments of 6 Series chipsets due to a quality concern. Sager has been working with Intel and Clevo to determine details and the timeline for a resolution of this problem. While we continue to do everything in our power to understand this issue, we have made a decision to halt shipments of 8130, 8150 and 8170 systems until we have a full grasp of the issue and a timeline for resolution. We realize this may be an inconvenience to some of our customers, but we feel it is important that we have full confidence in the product before shipping. We thank you in advance for your patience."

And what the Mythlogic rep said:

Here is the latest info that I got from Clevo Sager:

"SATA ports 2-5 are used on all model not only 8170, ODD is on port 2 not 1, at this time we are awaiting for more detail on Intel’s next step to Clevo."

SO ALL models have this issue.

Thanks a lot. I'm going to do a little bit of research, and then call them back. This isn't a good sign if they're still selling the laptops like nothing is wrong :S

Oh, is there an official source I can cite that explicitly says that ports 2-5 are indeed used on ALL Clevo's?

I think the fact that all Clevo units have 1 internal HDD + 1 internal ODD + 1 ESATA port.

Making 3 ports being used, already said it all nothing much more confirmation you need, regardless if the ODD is on Port 1 or not, ESATA will be on 2 or 3.

While many can say i won't use ether ESATA port, i will take it as is. But will these same users just toss their unit away if any strange issue rises. Or will they go back to their point of purchase and insisting on a solution questioning that the chipset many be at fault as there was a recall on it?

    Think about this:

there are 6 ports on the SATA controller
    0/1 = SATA 3 (unaffected)
    2/3/4/5 = SATA 2 (affected)

if the laptop has 1xHDD, 1xODD, 1xeSATA, that's 3 ports therefore at least one of those has to be on the affected ports.

    edit: beaten to it...

Oh alright. I just thought that since someone who's involved in the testing of this stuff was telling me this, they'd be more reliable. One further question before I call them, if the eSATA is affected, does that have anything to do with the USB ports, or are they separate from eSATA?

USB ports are fine. USB doesn't go through SATA controllers.

It seems that Eurocom has found a way to make themselves an attractive option to buyers nevertheless their "shady" business practices described on this forum. The fella with the x7200 in Germany with 2x6970's crossfired that already received his machine 1.5 weeks ago on the x7200 owner's lounge was confirmed to be using an imported Eurocom rebrand.

I guess it can be taken as a calculated risk.
