Hi all, I am recently finding myself on the road more and more. With my desktop inaccessible I'm scouring the market for a laptop to game on. I have heard great things about sager / clevo laptops, and mixed reviews on Alienware and Asus.

But I have to say as a canadian customer it is very hard to find a Sager that I will not have to pay brokerage fees on, as far as I'm aware Eurocom is the only place to go, and I haven't heard the best of things about their build quality and service. I am curious to know if what I have heard is true or not, if it is what other places can you recomend.

There are no brokerage fees if you select express shipping:

UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada

Also, there are no import duties on notebooks shipping from the US to Canada, you just pay your local GST / PST - depending on where you live.

I purchased my M860TU from Eurocom. It was a great experience, they were very accommodating.

The local taxes you pay are going to sting, but as Malibal stated, there are no brokerage fees or import taxes.

I would recommend XoticPC. I've had good experiences with them.

From what I understand, when you buy a Clevo in Canada and if it breaks, you have to send it back to the US for repairs which is a hassle. I'd go for an Alienware if I were you, it's better than Clevo overall IMO. I've owned all 3 of the brands you mention and I think AW is the best one for you and it has at home service in Canada.

Hmmm, on some models of "Alienware", if you look closely under the alien head, you'll see a clevo sticker !

So much for alienware being superior.......................brahahaw !

I ordered my m860tu from Eurocom a few years back, and had a great experience buying from them. I know a few users have had bad experiences, but that goes for any company really. Good luck on the purchase!

What year are you living in? M15x and M17x are 100% Dell/Flextronics manufactured and have nothing to do with Clevo. They're superior to Clevo products in nearly every way.

I'm from Ontario and had a great experience ordering through AET Solutions (now known as reflex notebook apparently) and you end up paying a bit for express shipping but no other additional costs aside from that. Check them out.

the reflex guys are decent priced, but they lack upgrade options when it comes to GPUs, eurocom has more options in that department, unless maybe if you called in, they could help u out a little better.

Being an owner of both Clevo and Alienware and living in Canada, I have to agree with Joker. For a Canadian Alienware is currently the best way to go at the moment IMO.

If you absolutely must have a Clevo I have to recommend you stay away from Eurocom. Too many horror stories with them.. you can check around the forums, the Fair and Legal Business Practices thread stickied as the first thread in this Sager and Clevo forum will shed a lot of light on that.

Seconded. Although... if you have the coin. order from a clevo reseller like rjtech... our dollar in CAD is sitting very near par. heck when i ordered my x7200 from rjtech last week... our dollar was over the USD and i saved money.. i will have to pay taxes.. but that's no diff from ordering here anyways. I ordered from eurocrap for my d901c.. that was trying... i was going to go with rjtech first but in 08 our dollar was .67 to usd.

shipping was cheap.. and if it does need to be sent back.. if you got the coinage.. it's not an issue.

if you want the best. you have to pay.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions! I ended up buying from Xoticpc, based off of the advice malibal provided about shipping, and because I needed the lappy before the 20th. Came out to about $1850 after conversion, shipping, and taxes. I had a great experience with them, but I deff have my fingers crossed that I will not need any warranty work :p. I will be looking hard at reflex notebooks next time thought.
