Hello guys, earlier this week I received my brand new Sky X4C from eurocom with the following specs.
120hz 5ms screen
8700k delided with CLU between the heatsink and the CPU
I ordered 2x8gb of corsair 3000hz, they replaced it with a single 16gb stick that can't hit 3000hz
1080 GTX
Alright, so other than the memory problem the machine has been working well, except that even if the CPU is delidded, after an hour of Far Cry 5, temps would still be high (83-87) while the gpu is maxed at 70
I'm starting to wonder if they did actually delid, but anyway, my problem comes from the fact that I can't, for the love of god, undervolt.
If I'm in XTU or even the command center eurocom use where you can overclock the cpu and play with the voltage, I can't set anything without both of them reseting themselves.
I also noticed that the processor core iccmax is at 138A instead of default, however I can't for the love of god change it either.
I tried to play with the vcore in the bios, but to be totally honest, I have no idea how that bios work. (5.12 bios from American megatrends)
At this point, any help will be appreciated.
EDIT; I added an imgur screenshot from my hwmonitor. Vcore reaching 1.4 and it seems that the cpu is already overclocked because all 6 cores are boosting to 4.5 under full load.

You need to watch values in real time, as using only maximum values can lead you astray. You can't tell whether all 6 cores were all 4.5 at the same time for example, or whether it was 1.4v under high load (which is pushing it) or under low load/stock adaptive voltage (spikes that high are common)
Throttlestop is a useful single app, you can run a 100% TSBench load and watch what happens to the multipliers, temps, power draw, and voltage all on the one screen. And see what shows up in Limit Reasons too.
Hwinfo64 for a full suite of data, it can be set up to display values while in-game, but its a lot of faffing about and just having it open on extended desktop on an external monitor is much easier -
Thanks for the tip, I will def do that.
If the results are the same, do you have any tips for me on why I can't undervolt?
Thanks! -

The BIOS has an offset option and then a modifier (positive or negative offset). You can give that a go.

Unfortunately for me, as soon as I save with anything changed in the bios, the laptop goes into an infinite booting loop and if I don't pull out the cmos battery, I can't do anything and I don't know how to exactly pin point the problem between a bad cpu that can't accept any change to voltage, a bad motherboard or a bad bios.
I should add that for the love of me, I can't get XMP to work on my corsair vengeance 16gb 3000hz stick to work. -
Yes the CPU is delidded and those temps are rather good for the given clockspeed, cpu and garbage cooling. Idk why it doens't undervolt tho, try XTU or throttlestop for undervolting and see how that goes.

Give us short review of this model, please.

I limited the temp of the 1080 to 69 with asus tweak, increased the mv to the max, oced the core to reach 2026 and the memory by 650, reducing the temp of the GPU reduced the temp of the whole system.
I picked up the delidding option and liquid metal as my CPU "paste" and I'm glad I did.
During a 2 hours BF1 session, the CPU PEAKED at 85 but most of the time it was in the low 70s, keep in mind my laptop is flat on my desk, without any cooling pad or anything, it would be even lower.
The only problem I have is my memory not running at 3000hz but I don't know if it's a faulty stick or simply the XMP profile not pumping enough voltage (The xmp say that 1.2v is enough but I doubt it)
If you had to buy it today, just be sure to pay extra for better thermal options/paste. -
THanks for response.
Am i correct that battery life is poor? Or there is a way to squeeze max out of it? -
I didn't bought the laptop for the battery life, the battery is usually unplugged and I'm plugged in the wall so I can't really comment on it, but I'm guessing that without a g-sync panel and with low luminosity you could squeeze more than an hour out of it.
Eurocom, Sky X4C, 8700k and undervolt problems.
